5 pt harness vs booster seat
What age/size do you make the switch? Many of Gillian's friends are in boosters. I feel like its not safe for her size.

My kids did the big switch at 4 years old. It's a mommy comfort thing. Always go with your gut!

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
She will be 4 nov 26. Most of her friends turned 4. Maybe thats the reason. She still measures 38' so she isnt that tall either.

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
My DS was 4 and he is still in his Marathon. My DD is 6 and she's still in hers too. If DD is not over the weight or height limit on her current seat, I'd keep the 5 pt for as long as possible. JMO

My older DD was around 4.5--maybe a little after that--when we switched her to the Graco ComfortSport. It's a seatbelt booster.

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
DS was in his 5 point car seat until his 6th b-day. We plan on doing the same, if not longer for DD.

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
My son is 4.5 and still in a five point harness. I have no intention of taking him out until he reaches the weight limit which is 85lbs for the seat we have.

I agree with the above who said go with what you are comfortable with but personally based on this post - I 'd keep her put in the 5 point harness longer. A booster has to fit correctly to be safe and if she isn't that tall than it may not fit right - check out booster seat height requirements and test a friends out to see where the strap lies. I moved my older son at 4 yrs but he was just under 43 in and over 40s (the 5 pt harness seat I had was max of 40lbs and 43 in).

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
Ok, I feel better! I actually thought it was ridiculous to take her out but everyone was making me think this was common. I am sure she will never be "too tall" or "too heavy" since dh and I are 5"2 and 5"7..

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
My DD is 7 and STILL in the Eddie Bauer 5 pt harness (the one that I can take the 5pt belt off and eventually just use with car seat belt). I don't think she is small for her age, just average and still fits properly in it. She complained a couple of times this summer about the seatbelt rubbing on her so I'm guessing that when she's in a bulkier coat later this Fall I will take out the 5 pt belt. She occasionally sits in the booster we have in DHs car and IMO it's not as safe (nothing is as safe as 5 pt harness), since she's still not tall enough where the car seat belt sits at the proper place across her chest and shoulder.

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
Both my kids were in their Britax Marathons until well after age 4. Actually, my DD, who was 4 in May, just started the switch to a booster seat with seatbelt. But I still have her in the Marathon if I can.

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
DS is going to be 4 tomorrow and not anywhere near being out of his Britax Marathon! I drove a friend and her son to Great Adventure a few weeks ago and he is in a regular booster (with car seat belt, just the bottom part) as he is already 44 inches. A few times he pulled the belt over his head to reach various things in the car that fell on the floor. I really feel, although they may be large enough, they are too young to "understand" why safety comes first.

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
My youngest is going to be 5 in November and he is still in a 5 pt harness. We are now having a problem with him on the school bus standing up in his seat with his belt still on. My husband wants to put him in a booster so he gets used to the rules of an actual seatbelt. I don't know what to do!
My 2nd grader is still in a backless booster (she will be 7 in Oct) and she will be using it until next year when she turns 8. All her friends are already stopping using it - but isn't it a NY law that they have to be in a booster until 8?

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
E1 was 4 in June. She's in a 5pt harness, and I plan to keep her in it as long as possible.
I moved her from the roundabout the the graco nautilus (so E2 could use her seats).

Re: 5 pt harness vs booster seat
DD turned 4 iin June. when she outgrew the evenflo triumph I switched her to the nautilus which is a 65 lb 5 pt harness and then converts to a booster (backed and backless) I plan on keeping her in the harness as long as possible because its safer. The nautilus doesnt "look like a baby seat" so she likes it. A lot of her friends are in a bootser but Im just not comfortable with that. She is tall for her age too..about 41-42 inches and 40 lbs.

Bella just turned 5 and we also just switched her to the Nautilus. She will stay there until she is at least 6 or 7....It's a comfort thing, I think. I just don't want to chance anything.
