from what my dh explained to me , the yankees play by the same rules as everyone else, he also said that they just bought a guy named lackey, matsazacka, and out bid the sox on teixera (sp?) , the yanks, he says are are commited to winning and put a lot of money back in to team to win championships for ny, he also said alot of money is paid in luxury tax that goes to other teams which they put in their pocket not back into the team. if any of this is untrue i apologize but it seems to me the yanks really love the fans that support them.

you're right - Yankees are doing nothing wrong. It's MLB that is to blame - because they don't change the rules.
The luxury tax is a joke because the Yankees can pay any tax you put in front of them. And it's true - the other teams pocket the money.
Until MLB does something about it, the sport will continue to be a joke.

I'm sure its not all about the fans...it all comes done to the almighty dollar. Better team = more championships = bigger paychecks.

better team=more championships=more FANS.
more FANS=more MONEY=bigger paychecks=more championships.
Ah, the circle of life.
Granted, I was a Yankee fan in the dark, depressing 80's. When everyone decided they were a Mets fan in 86, I was rooting for the Sox. Hey, whaddya want, I was all of 12 years old!
Look at the Sox!!! I went to college in Boston (I dormed literally across the way from Fenway) and my last memory of Fenway was the original dump it was...until Red Sox nation took over. Look how much $$ that organization has now, thanks to the bandwagon jumpers. I haven't been to Fenway since the Sox became this almighty force, but I can imagine the entire surrounding areas have had to change big time.
Not to say that there aren't Yankee bandwagon fans either...it happens in every sport!

Re: 5 yr old boy gives opening day speech..
I think half of the fans of championship teams are bandwagon jumpers...its just easier and more fun to root for someone you know is gonna win!
To your point, most of those Mets "fans" from '86 are now Yankee "fans". Its easy to jump on a bandwagon--its much harder to be loyal!!!!

Re: 5 yr old boy gives opening day speech..
With the amount of money that players make the bottom line is every team buys championships. But I will say this for the Yankees, on their team last year how many of their starting pitchers and players came up through the Yankee system? Jeter, Posado, Cano, Melky, Pettitte, Mo, Joba, Hughes, Gardner, a possibly a few more I might be forgetting. So yes they paid A-Rod, Tex, CC, and Burnett big money to come to NY but they also do an amazing job of drafting and keeping talent in their system. Show me one team in the last 20 years that has won based on all home based talent. Every team has to bring in big players. And how do you do that? Show me the money. That's what it comes down to. And the Yankees pay their price for going over. Kansas City got $30 million in luxury tax alone last year and yet their payroll is $25 million. What are they doing with the money? Why are the yankees the bad guys? The Twins upped their payroll to over $100 million. That is a team that Selig was considering shutting down 10 years ago. They realized that in order to win you have to put the money into the players, not into your owners pockets. I'm just happy to be a fan of a team that is willing to spend the money it makes on players. Most teams in all sports are not willing to do that.
