The Arrival of Robert Patrick V
Feb. 4th 2010 - I was 39 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I was literally trying everything to get labor going along since I was sooo done and ready to meet my little guy. I walked a mile a day at least...I ate spicy foods... you name it, I did it. LOL. Then, I finally went and got a pedicure on the 4th........ felt fine afterwards...relaxed and had pretty feet LOL. Went and picked up lunch... came home to eat it and was planning on laying down to take a nap before DH got home from work.
Just as I got comfy... I felt like I needed to go to the bathroom...again. So, nice and slow, I started getting up... then GUSH...water was everywhere. I was waddeling to the bathroom laughing b/c I couldn't control it. I was in no pain, and just found it sooo odd that I was leaving a huge trail of water behind me. Yes, I was still laughing at this point. My dog must have thought I was insane. ha
I clean it all up and change my pants and all that and call the doctor right away. They said they would call me back soon, ... so I went on facebook LOL. DH was almost home by this time, about 35 mins away... and my nerves were starting to sink in.
Once the doctor called me back she wanted me to go into the office. I showered while wating on Dh to get home from work... and off we went. I got there by 6. i was still in no pain. I couldn't believe that this was it... I was going to be a Mommy shortly.
They did an exam to make sure in fact it was my water, and that all was still well... and then put me on a stress test. That was my first time on that thing lol. After being on it for about 10 mins is when I experienced my first contraction. Wasn't super bad... just super uncomfortable. I had a total of 3 on there...not intense....all about 15 mins apart...not constant. I was 2-3 cm dilated at this time.
The doc told me to go home... relax... take a shower if I wanted... eat something... for I was going to be having a baby very soon. This was at 7:30pm. The car ride home the contractions became stronger...more intense. The bumps were horrible!! lol
I got home, ate a little sandwich, and relaxed on the couch... having my DH clock the contractions on Contraction Master.com lol. I lost track of time...I just felt like I was in constant pain... then he said, it's time to go... the past 7 contractions were 3 mins apart. WOW... that was quick. I call my midwife... she tells me to meet her at the hospital.
We got to the hospital at 10:30... I walked up...slowly...for I was always told to walk during labor. All the nurses were shocked to see me walking, and I didn't understand that LOL. Ah well. DH signed me in while I changed... and my midwife actually beat me there. She checked me and get this, I was 7cm!!!!
I wanted to do a drug-free birth... so this was OK. lol. I still had the option of getting the epi, so i asked...can they really get that much more intense that that...? She was honest... yes...they can. She then offered Demerol... don't knew if I spelt that right...and that did wonders!!!!!! Took the edge off... made me feel more relaxed. Just doesn’t last long... specially if you get stuck somewhere LOL.
By 11:30pm I was at 9.5cm... I really was hoping that this little guy wouldn't make his appearance until after midnight since my brother, who which I never met, passed away at age 2 for unknown reasons, and he was born on the 4th. Due to my odd superstitions, I was hoping he would make it after midnight. I kept watching the clock whenever I wasn’t having a contraction… by 11:55pm I felt this urge I needed to push. My midwife came in once again to check and see if it was really time. She kept telling me to push down… sure enough, I was still 9.5cm…
From that point onward, I just kept feeling soo much pressure down there, and kept needing to push. I was trying not to, but I felt like my body had other things in mind. The contractions and the pushing feeling was all about 2 minutes apart, so I really had no time to breathe, relax, or even look at the clock. By this time I just couldn’t wait for it to be over. It’s odd, since my butt was the only part hurting me when I continued pushing…. No pain in the front. In three large pushes, I said I was no longer able to push, I couldn’t do it…I was in too much pain. My midwife just told me to look, and there he was… my son. Perfect, and right in front of me. They put him on my chest as DH cut the umbilical cord, and they took him over to the scale. He scored on 9 on the agar scale, measuring 19.5 inches, 7lbs, 10oz on Feb. 5th, 2010. That was the absolute greatest feeling in the world. Nothing can compare to that one moment of meeting our son, Robert Patrick V.
Now after being home, it is becoming a more and more feeling of love and family. DH gets to watch the super bowl with his son, and it’s the cutest thing in the world. LOL. Our first night home DH wasn’t able to go to sleep since he couldn’t keep his eyes off his son. He slept though the night until it was his time to eat. He woke us up by fussing quietly in his bassinet…I fed him, changed him, and he went right back to sleep. I couldn’t ask for a better, happier, baby. Life is grand. It’s amazing how quickly we both adapted to having this new addition.
DH right after the birth lol
Finally holding my son after it all
I could add a zillion more... LOL... I can't get enough of him.
