I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
We are trying to sell our house - cleaning it up, renovating, everything is looking good, except one thing - the ****** @#*$@#%U&(@#$ CAT.
This is truly the meanest, most schizophrenic cat on earth - I've had her for about 10 years, and her temperment and mood has just gotten worse and worse over the years.
We had some behavior issues when Alex was born - but now, ever since the day we brought home Yael, she has been peeing and pooping ALL OVER THE HOUSE.
Now she picked her favorite spot in the dining room. I clean it up everytime, I make sure her litter is spotless, but again and again, she pees there, and the house is starting to reek.
I will of course take her to the vet to rule out any medical issues, but I don't think that's what it is - it started happening, literally, the day Yael came home from the hospital.
WTH can I do???

One of our cats did the same thing and DH and I cleaned the house I couldn't tell you how may times They even peed on our 2000.00 black leather couch and dh had to throw it away. Needless to say they are outside cats since july.

That's the thing - she used to be an outdoor cat, but now she won't go outside anymore - as much as I put her outside, she comes running back in.
How did you make them outside cats?

Re: I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
ours did the SAME thing when we brought Eddie home and it continued right until we rehomed him when Eddie was 1.5 (for unrelated reasons, eddie turned out to be severely allergic). He was just really jealous. He mostly peed on Eddies things, and our clothes. NOTHING we did stopped it.

That's how I know it's more territorial than anything, because for a while there, she was peeing on the baby's things, and on Alex's stuff. It got so bad that I had to put up a freakin' baby gate to block off our bedrooms from her access
She's such a nasty cat that there is simply no way I could find a new home for her.

Re: I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
We had the same thing happen. Its infuriating! My cat was nice when he wanted to be but was also ine nasty SOB. When DS was born he traded biting for pee'ing. I spoke with a few animal rescue people who said once a pee'er always a pee'er and that we had to put the cat to sleep. We got rid of him recently because with #2 about to arrive there was no way I was going to deal with cat piss all over my house. My moms friend (1 of the cat recue people took him) and I didn't ask what she was doing with him. It was sad to give him away, but the health of my family comes first.

Re: I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
Speak with your veterinarian. There may be some medications that you can try to make the kitty more amenable to the new changes in your household (ie behavioral medications). They are definitely worth a try, good luck!

Re: I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
My DH is a vet tech and said if you can collect the cats urine it may have crystals. You can do this by putting an empty litter pan in a bathroom or a cage and getting something to bring it to the vet in. Something where it can be easily cleaned up. Also since you say your moving, my DH said that its possible if you have been moving things around the house or making big changes it could throw the cat off. Or if you out his litter box in a new spot he could be confused?? Not sure if any of these things are correct but I just wanted to give you some ideas. Good Luck hope your vet can help!

Re: I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
PROZAC!!!!
I'm not kidding
Back in 2005 we were trying to sell our first house, just married a few weeks and Zoe (my step cat ) started peeing in the basement She always had anxiety issues, she was DH's ex's cat and between her leaving, removing most of the furniture months after, me moving in, then getting ready to sell, Z had just about had enough.
I called a local vet, explained the whole history and he prescribed Prozac.
One mom and pop pharmacy in town keeps it in stock for him. On the way to pick up the script, all I could think of was, "Will this Prozac script be in my name or her's?" Oh, you HAD to be there Sure enough the bottle was for Zoe K.... Prozac
Oh, and house sold within a few weeks at asking price
Good luck!!

Re: I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
your moving, baby, etc its way to much for any animal. He/she might need more attention (like designate 15 minute play time) - we play with stubby about a hour a day between DH and I but we don't have kids. But if you do spend quality time then perhaps you changed the location of the box? Maybe it needs to be cleaned more (we clean ours twice a day so its very clean and our cat likes it that way.) If both are negative then go to the vet. Cats do not want to urinate all over *unless its a unfixed male cat or a cat that wasn't neutered until late in life. They are clean creatures but can get vindictive. Some playtime might work or more toys/scratching posts so that the cat is entertained more.

Re: I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
when our cat started peeing on the bed we had to cover it with a shower curtain. cover the spot with a shower curtain...hopefully it'll stop it.

Re: I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
My first thought was Prozac too! My mom inherited my aunt's cats when she died and one of them had huge depression issues - ultimately they put her on prozac. Maybe it will help!

Can you put an extra litter box in her favorite spot? That might help!

I agree. Cats don't do well with changes. You need to spend some time with the cat giving it some attention.
I personally don't think trying to make it an "outdoor" cat is the solution.
Let the vet rule out if there is anything wrong with the cat...it could have been a coincidence that the cat started urinating when you brought your dd home. One of my moms cats started urinating in the house out of nowhere. Turns out he had cancer

Re: I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
I feel your pain. I have a similar situation with my 2 yorkies. They were bad when we brought home Tyler and than got better but ever since we brought home Derek they are going all over my house. It seems now that the weather has gotten nice and they are out more it has stopped, for now

Re: I CANNOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!
I would definitely have your cat's urine tested for crystals. One of my cats did that growing up and she had a problem with her urinary tract. My other cat had to be put on prozac when she started to chew her fur (also a behavioral problem like peeing)...
Please don't make her an outside cat...
