55 and over communities in Nassau County
Does anyone know of any besides the new one at Roosevelt Field? I'd really appreciate some suggestions for my parents. Thanks!

To buy something or to rent? My parents rent in a 55+ place in Farmingdale. During their search, we found that Nassau is tougher to find places than Suffolk.

Contact the Nassau Department of Aging, they should be able to direct you to both subsidized and non-subsidized situations throughout the county.

Those are assisted living and my grandparents are there and believe me, the residents are WAY over 55! There is a really nice one in port washington near Harbor Links golf course...

I was thinking the same thing. There is a HUGE difference between a 55+ and an assisted living. I know there is 55+ condo community in Farmingdale. Its near 110 I believe. I know of a ton in Suffolk, but not too many in Nassau

55 and over, not assisted living (maple point is assisted living). There are a few in Suffolk, many on the North SHore. They are all a LOT of $$.
The ones in Suffolk can be found by searching Newsday's listings for new homes, just recently I sent the link to my dad. If I find it, I will post it to you.

I know there's one in Port Washington, but I don't know the name. Supposedly it's very nice, though!

There is the Bel Aire in East Meadow on Hempstead Turnpike and there is the Season's at Plainview in Plainview right off the North LIE service road. Both are new construction.

I called about these (not that I am even 55, 34 here, but just wanted to know more about them so I could talk my parents into moving there). LOVE THEM. I asked prices and taxes and the taxes are 3% or so of the sales price so that is like at least 15,000 since all the units are at least 500,000. I dont know who is moving there (there are so many available) and the location isnt the greatest.

See, I think the location is great, close to everything...especially for an older person...
And they originally thought the taxes would be that much, but they got abreak, they are more like 10k...
I know people that live there and love it

Re: 55 and over communities in Nassau County
Yeah I should've been really specific. I'm not talking about assisted living. Just an adult community. i know there are tons of assisted living/nursing homes. Thanks for the suggestions ladies. And keep em coming. Anyone know the name of the one in Farmingdale? I didn't realize the North Shore Towers was an adult community. That's a good suggestion.

I didn't realize you could rent. I'm not sure which they would prefer.
