Ava Anne

It was a long bumpy pregnancy with Ava.
We got the magical news that we were expecting while we were planning a wedding. Our due date was a week after our wedding date. We had to bump up the wedding!

***The Pregnancy***
At my first visit the dr saw no fetal pole and I was said to have an irregular shape sac. I was told to come back a week later and sent home with the miscarriage talk.
I googled it- not a good idea. DONT GOOGLE.
our next apt came and there our little one was with a heart beat!
I was put on progesterone until like week 24. At our level II i was told I had Vasa Previa & an anterior placenta. My cord inserted into the placenta at the end rather than the middle and my cord was in front of the cervix. scary but we found out it was a !!!
My follow up showed that the placenta had moved and I just had velamentous cord insertion. I was told I would have to go for more sonos to watch the babys development.
Than came the failing of the 1hour by 1 point but the passing of the 3 hour. its not so bad.
As the end came near the dr suggested that I got a C/s because of the risks of the cord breaking because of the velamentous cord insertion problem I had. I decided that was the way to go and scheduled it for a day after our original wedding date.

***The Birth***

We arrive at the hospital at 5:45 and were told that we weren’t scheduled to be there until 11 (our dr bumped up the time but the hospital didn’t write that down) so they hooked me up to the monitors while they got everything in motion .
They had no luck getting my IVs in and they tried in 4 places in my arm and hand and after getting all bruised they had to call in the big guns-the anesthesiologist and he did it right away. After my blood test came back it was BABY TIME!
They brought me into the surgery room and gave me a spinal which wasn’t bad. Than they started to prep me and put up the c/s sheet. I started to panic-big time. The anesthesiologist was great and he told me he would make a deal as soon as we got the baby out he would give me something to calm me down. in the meantime lets talk about something he said-how about work--im like noooooooo i dont want to tak about work. I think the sheet was too close so he moved it back as much as he could. that was a little better. than dh comes in in his surgical outfit and hat and I told him I was freaking out-and he was like omg me too. um hello im the one whose got to go through this! lol
Let me stop and say I was freaked out but it wasnt bad. Anyone getting a c/s please ignore that because once they got started I felt pressure but absolutely no pain. I felt comfortable once the dr started. As soon as the baby way out she let out a BIG CRY!! and the anesthesiologist started shooting medicine in my IV ( we had a deal) I didn’t fall asleep but it made me pretty chill.
They brought our little one to meet mommy and daddy

Than after they were done with fixing me up I was taken to recovery room and given the best blanket in the world (its soo warm).
I got the chills in the recovery room and thought they would never go away--they did though.
I was than taken to my room (which was being left by another mommy who was going home) so I had the room to myself!
They brought our baby who we named

AVA ANNE
Born 6/7/10 @ 8:47am
6lbs 12oz 20.5 inches



After a great stay from monday to friday we were sent home. Huntington hospital has such great nurses and food!

***The swelling***
II had very extreme swelling in my legs and feet while at the hospital.
When I got home it got even worse and EVERYTHING from the waste down was swollen & painful. I googled it and even spoke about it here -where it was said it was norm to have swelling up to 6 weeks after.
I actually gained weight after delivery.
That following Monday my mom made me call the dr she knew this wasnt normal swelling. (im not much of a complainer when it comes to my health) Called the office & spoke to the nurse who said it was normal and to take natural diuretics & call back tues if it didnt get better. i did what she said & had to call back tues bc it had gotten worse. I made an apt for wed.
Wed dr apt my blood pressure was high and the dr looked at my swelling & sent me straight to the emergency room where I had to spend the next 2 days. I was given high doses of diuretics, antibiotics and blood pressure medicine.

***Back to the hospital****
They told me I had postpartum preeclampsia. I had a private room so my baby, Ava, could come visit me. I also ended up getting Cellulitis infection under the c/s insistion
On my discharge papers from 1st stay my bp was higher than normal and I found out that my bp went up even higher while there. I also woke up with a light in my eye. another sign.

Im now ok and off all my medicines but it was def a scary experience and please dont ignore when your body doesnt feel right.
