Cruise for Labor Day weekend?
I have off from Thurs-Monday of Labor Day weekend. We have no one in particular to visit but I'd love to get out of town. Is it crazy to even consider a cruise with just me and my 4 and 7 yo that would leave out of NY? Plus, is it crazy-expensive to book one for LD weekend and being so last minute? Don't even know where to begin.

Re: Cruise for Labor Day weekend?
I answered my own question, there is a Carnival cruise out of NY the exact dates I want to go, goes to New England and NB, Canada. It's about $500 pp. Now, the big question is whether or not just me and kids with no other adult is realistic or not!! I've never been on one. I know there's lots to do, but will we take advantage of it all, is it worth it?

Re: Cruise for Labor Day weekend?
If you think you could handle them alone why not?
Just keep in mind unless you get an in room babysitter - or the cruiseline has night time drop off activities for their ages that you won't have any nightlife without them. As long as you are okay with that, why not?
They have kid's activities, pools for them to play in. Dinners can either be sit down or you can do buffet if you don't think they will sit for a longer meal.
I think it really depends on what your children are like and how you feel about doing it alone. It is totally doable as long as you know what you are getting into.
Check out cruisecritic.com there is a great posting area over there - with info on each ship by cruiseline, shore excursions etc. You might even find people on that particular cruise or people who have taken that sailing before who can give you some tips and provide some more info on the kid's programs.

Re: Cruise for Labor Day weekend?
Personally, I'd probably go to Bermuda out of NYC vs. Canada/England. I dont remember the $$$ being that different. I didnt love Bermuda BUT at least there would be more to do. Canada/England doesnt have a ton to offer.

Re: Cruise for Labor Day weekend?
We took the Carnival Victory in July 06' to Canada ( Halifax) for 5 days and we actually didn't care for it
We had been on 2 previous cruises on Royal Carribean and loved them...
We were freezing on the boat to Canada (so much that no-one was in the pools !) We were with my 7yo SD and 9 month old DS....Their kids play-area was only open for babies under 2 ( or 1 I forget) for only 1 hour a day for free-play...it was toght with my 9m old because he had no-where to crawl around etc and because the pool wasnt an option it became a bit monotmous (sp) while on board... Maybe with a 4 and 7yo it would be better though !
Not sure if it is a fluke thing that it was so cold, but just wanted to share my experience !
