Christopher Michael born on Thanksgiving Day 2010!

My due date was 11/26

Monday, 11/22, I went to the doctor very excited to hear if I was dialated more than that 1cm he had told me I was the last time. Nope! I was still only 1cm! We even set an induction date for 12/7...I thought "this is it! I'm going to be pregnant forever!"

Tuesday, 11/23, I went shopping at the mall with my Mom. I wanted to walk around to try and bring on my labor, as well as buy the baby more clothes! We were in Baby Gap when the women at the register asked me if I was OK. I guess I didn't realize how tired and exhausted I looked! I knew that something was up when she asked me if I was all right and I also felt something inside of me saying, "You are going into labor!" When we left the mall, I went back to my parent's house for a bit. While there, I felt really crampy! I was feeling pretty crampy for a couple of days actually. I was cramping a lot! I thought something may be up, but I was discouraged because of the doctor's appointment the day before.

Wednesday, 11/24, at approximately 5 A.M., BOOM! something woke me up out of my sleep...Is it..a contraction?? I couldn't believe it! I just knew that it was a contraction! omg is this it? I'll start timing them!! So at first they were about 45 minutes apart..I couldn't believe it!! Did I lose my mucus plug?!! NOO!! lol (Although looking back now, I believe that I lost my mucus plug in pieces)...so I thought it was possible that it was false labor..I knew it wasn't Braxton Hicks because I have had them all throughout my pregnancy...I couldn't wait for my DH to come home! (He works midnight shifts in the city, so he gets home about 10 AM) By 10 AM, my contractions were about 30 minutes apart...we were so excited!! especially because DH actually had off that night, a night he isn't usually off, but had off because it was Thanksgiving the next day! My DH and I decided to go shopping (mostly me lol, I love my shopping!) at the Deer Park Outlets at the Christmas Tree Shop to get things for Christmas and to try and speed up my labor! After going to the Christmas Tree Shop, we went and ate at Chipotle!! yes Chipotle!! mm love me some burrito!! and after that, we went into Carters to look for Christmas outfits for our baby<3...we had to leave though, because my contractions were getting stronger and a bit closer...we left the outlets approximately 3:30 where my contractions were now about 20 minutes apart...DH was so cute and amazing, he timed each of them for me!! I can still remember!!
So we get home about 4, and I guess walking around does speed it up because I went from 20 minutes apart to 10 minutes apart to 5 minutes apart all in the same hour!!! I couldn't believe it!! I still haven't lost my mucus plug, no sign of the bloody show...I did (TMI!) diarrhea though...because there was no bloody show or anything like that, I was still questioning if I was in labor or not!! I had to be!! 5 minutes apart, time to call the doctor!!!
So we called the doctor, and he called back in the next 10 minutes...I remember watching a video telling me that they will only tell me to come in if I sound like I am in pain, that's why they ask you questions and keep you on the phone, to see how your contraction goes..so I made sure I was just a little more dramatic!! The contractions at this point did hurt when they came, but they weren't too unbearable! He said to go to St. Charles!! I can't believe it, we are going to the hospital!!!
12 hours into labor we get to the hospital...it was surreal walking into that L&D room, with the little baby bed in the corner! We both wanted to cry right there when we saw that!! I changed into my gown, got hooked up to the monitor, and look at that!! those really are contractions!! I am in labor!! OK so they went to check me (and I really thought that I was going to be like 3cm dialted!!)...so they check...nope!! only 1 CM...ahhhh!!! allright fine, it's going to have to progress, isn't it??!! they hooked me up to the IV too, where they were giving me fluids
Around 7:30 PM, we were watching the Knicks and the contractions were painful (still not unbearable)..the nurse told me that I can go walk around if I would like...I said OK sounds like fun, let's go walk around!! Well, it was fun and all, but out of nowhere, I couldn't really walk anymore! now this pain is getting more intense!! went back into the L&D room to relax...
A couple of hours went by and I was having strong contractions...I swore that I had to have dialted by now! The nurse comes in and checks...still only 1cm!! (I'm thinking wow, I have to wait until I am 4cm, it's never going to happen!) The nurse gave me demerol through the IV (when I first got it, I felt soooooo good, it was great!!) lasted for about 1-2 hours, doesn't take away all of the pain, I was still shaking the bed at each contraction, but eased them up a little and also let me sleep a little...a couple of hours went by again and I was still 1cm dialted...gave me another shot of demerol...(My Mom stayed with me almost the entire night, poor Mom slept in a rocking chair, she let my husband sleep on the good chair because my my husband hadn't slept in about 2 days because he had back to back double shifts!! She eventually left at around 3, and came back the next morning with my dad with breakfast for my husband..my dad was also with us that night until about 11:30)
Around 6am, after 2 shots of demerol, now in labor for 25 hours, I had to be more dialted!! NOPE!! still only 1cm!! omg!! so they gave me ANOTHER shot of a pain killer (only this time it wasn't demerol, it was something else)
By 7:30 AM, I was completely high as a kite lol, and I know I was because when another nurse came in for the next shift, she walked in and I swore she was my friend Jess...I looked at her and said "what up Jess" lol....it was reallyyy funny...but what wasn't funny is this labor!!! The night before, they actually had told me that I would be delivering by the morning...that wasn't the case!

11/25..Thanksgiving!!
The nurse I guess put a different monitor on me where it monitors the intesity of the contractions as well...Even with all my pain killers, the nurse still told me that my contractions have been very intense, and I must take pain well!! I felt so strong!! lol...I knew my contractions were hurting a lot!!
Around 9am, I got checked again...I am now 3cm!!! yess!! I'm progressing!! so exciting, one more cm and I can get the epidural!! the light!!
The doctor finally came in to see me at around 10am, checked me, I was 3 1/2-4cm! (My husband was proud of me that I went 4cm on my own!) He called for the epidural and for pitocin (for those of you who do not know, pitocin helps speed up your labor)
I remember we were watching the Thanksgiving parade as I was getting my epidural..after the epidural, the doctor broke my water and gave me pitocin..I thought, this is it, he's coming soon!!!

The epidural definitely felt good..my husband and the nurse said that I fell asleep (which I don't remember!)...so I was sleeping for a little while even though I never felt like I rested!

11:30 7cm!! the pitocin helped!!

Let me tell you, the epidural was nice, you still have a pushing sensation...after I rested, the doctor wanted me to sit up, so I felt a lot of pressure though!

1:45 9 1/2-10cm...time to push!!! (33 hours into labor)...my husband was the only one with me while I pushed and delivered.
I was soo excited!! The first few pushes felt soo good because I was having the urge to push for a little while now!
I pushed forever! I watched myself too, they have a mirror that they put at your feet! It was great! I saw his little head and he had brown hair!

This labor has been so exciting so far, I was so happy (tired, exhausted, I almost passed out while pushing), but I was still as happy as can be

3:30ish the nurse discovers that I have a fever of 101.4 and I knew right away something was wrong...this is when my emotions went wild..I went from the happiest and exciting part of my life to the most scariest time of my life...SOMETHING was wrong! I was asking her but she wasn't answering, she couldn't, she didn't know! All of a sudden all of these nurses and doctors came into the room...I KNEW something was wrong when I saw the baby doctor come in (I remember the nurse telling me beforehand that they only come in if something is wrong!) I knew I had to get my baby boy out ASAP! I pushed so hard and I didn't give up..My husband told me as soon as we knew that something was wrong, I pushed like a maniac and had the baby out so quick!....I was SO afraid of what was wrong..I didn't know what was going on, All I remember was asking everyone "is he all right, is he all right" and no one would answer me...I thought the worse

3:54 (35 hours in labor!)..Christopher Michael is BORN!!! Now things are a little blurry at this point but this is what I remember...When he came out, I was relieved that the pushing was finished!! what a relief!!! victory is mine!! lol...They went and checked him and his APGar went from a 7 to an 8 which is good thank God!! He has a fever, but they were going to allow me to breastfeed him before he was swept away into the NICU...My husband was holding him while the doctor was delivering the placenta and stitching me up (I tore a bit) I remember the baby being on the little crib after he was born checked..he looked right over at me and I look at him..I will NEVER forget his little face and what I feeling I had looking at my little sweet angel...love at first sight, my little angel...And then I got to hold him, I already loved him so much!! I noticed his shortness in breathes as did the doctor and nurses..He wasn't breathing correctly...they had to take him to the NICU right away...I wasn't able to breastfeed him, I was only able to hold him for about 3 minutes, and those who were in the waiting room (including my parents who were with me the entire time) were not able to see the baby...It was reallyyy sad...I was so scared for my baby boy, but had a little relief knowing that phsyically he looked good and the hospital was confident in taking care of him

I was able to see my baby boy a couple of hours later in the NICU...I had to be wheeled in a wheel chair...I remember hearing the nurse telling my husband outside of the door to prepare me to see the baby because he had tubes in his nose and an IV hooked up to him...We went in, and there he was my little angel...laying there just as the nurse said he would be...He was so soft and so little...so fragile!
We eventually found out that he was born with fluid in his lungs and because of my fever, he got a fever and had to stay in the NICU for 48 hours because of a possible sepsis...well, his tests came back the next day and his protein was a little high...they decided they had to keep him in the NICU for 7 days...7 days, I was leaving in 2! He had a ruled out sepsis (blood infection)
Day by day, with the help of breastfeeding, my baby boy was getting better...leaving the hospital without him was the worse feeling that I have ever had in my life)

12/2....It was really hard, I was with him morning through night, and before I knew it, it was finally Thursday again and he could go home!! The BEST day of my life!!

~*Our little honeymoon baby*~

Each day with my husband and our baby boy is such a blessing...36 hours of labor was crazy, but it's true, in the end it's all worth it!! Crazy as it sounds I actually enjoyed being in labor! I would definitely do it again! with God's blessing, We want to have 3 or 4 kids!

God bless you Christopher Michael...7lbs 8oz, 19 1/2 inches...born on 11/25/10 @ 3:54 PM
