I would just like to say my DS received a GIGANTIC skeeball thing that literally is 7 feet in length by 4 feet, and it's 5' tall!

My SIL always gives DS large gifts. Last year it was an air hockey table. This year it was a Home Depot work station. I don't think in her case she's being spiteful. She has 3 kids and we're always generous with them. I think she's trying to keep it even. We don't have a playroom so it's really hard finding room for these presents. Next year if she sends something big, we're going to return it.

sis use to say playdough was if the parents didnt like u. just got a messy toy at xmas and was wondering if that was the intent.

I never give a gift to spite the parents, but my oldest sister had kids quite a few years before the rest of us. Everytime we would give the kids an annoying/loud/lots of pieces gift my BIL would joke that he was keeping a list and as soon as we had kids we were in trouble. Luckily my sister does the shopping for my kids xmas and bday presents

I just tell all family members that I want SMALL presents that can be stored in my toy baskets. Friends usually get smaller stuff.

Well before I had DS, I really had no idea about toys with lots of parts etc. so I may have inadvertently bought those types of gifts for friends or family. And I KNOW I sent my cousin's kids two ride on toys (motorized) when they were still living in an apartment. The thought of someone doing that to me makes me cringe now since we have NO space, so I kind of feel awful.

But I sent those gifts because I thought the boys would love them, not to be a b* lol.

We have gotten big gifts for DS so this year we requested only very small things, little in terms of toys. His birthday is coming up and we'll say the same again. With another baby coming, we just literally have NO room for more toys. Puzzles, books, etc. are good.

i try not to give a gift to spite the parents. i did once give my brother an annoying toy for his DS that didn't shut up and didn't have an off switch since he gave me one when my DD was born. But that was kind of a given and he knew it from day one that i would be getting him something without an off switch. It was a family joke for years.

My SIL tends to give us gifts to spite us I feel. She calls/emails/ and texts both me and DH with what to get for gifts. And when it comes time to open them they're never what we told her. They're usually really big and take up lots of room and/or have tons of little parts and are a choking hazard for my little ones.

I haven't, but my BIL/SIL just gave us a giant Power Wheels & we don't have a shed, garage or basement to store it in (and they know that)...so it's going to sit in the yard under a tarp for a loooong time (I refuse to spend $300+ on a shed just for it!). They laughed & told us they got the most annoying one they could find to boot (it's a cop car with sirens & a megaphone), so I already to my dh that when they eventually have kids we're going to get them the biggest most fun & obnoxious gifts that we can find

I have done this before...I admit it.

I'm sure my karma will be that now I am a mom that the same will be done to me.

For friends of DH who I can not stand, I have purposely given gifts that I know the kid will love that make a LOT of noise and will likely annoy the $hit out of the parents. (Eg. Play drum set, microphone with music, karaoke machine, etc.)

I def think my mom has given my DD and nephew some noisy (junky and small) toys that were so annoying, despite knowing we do not like it (and also to be defiant of our wishes). She says "Well the kids like it" when we express that we don't need horns and noisy dollar store kind of toys. But she repeatedly does it, even when I reminded her of when we were little and she REMOVED the squeakers out of some squeaky rubber toys we had. She said "well you were probably being purposely annoying with it." No matter what, according to her, kids like making noise,right? So same thing yet she finds a way to justify why SHE didn't want to hear the noise. I know my mom hated noisy things like that but conveniently forgets now or just likes to be defiant of our wishes. Don't know why though, boggles my mind.

For ex, New Years Day she provided all the kids (6) with horns (AT 6pmish) when it was super noisy to begin with. I said "the ball already dropped last night, do we REALLY need those now???" She still gave them. Luckily my 3yo really could not blow it so I took it away.

I must be way too nice and naive lol. It never even occurred to me to do this or that someone would ever do it to me. I wouldn't do that to someone either. I get kids gifts they either ask for or I think they'll enjoy.

They only time this even almost entered my mind was when I was buying gifts for less fortunate children this year. I almost got play dough for one of the girls but didn't because I know some parents don't really let kids play with it since it can get mashed into carpet. I didn't want to give a gift that the kid wouldn't be allowed to use, especially if it was one of the only gifts they'd be receiving.

My sil got my dd a huge bean bag chair after my dh told her he didn't think it was a good idea for a one year old. Takes up tons of space, doesn't match her room and she uses it to climb and jump off. I feel spited for sure!!

never thought of it to be honest- wish I had- I cant stand DH's best friend's wife and I would love to spite her- luckily their DD is born in April so we'll do it now

LOL, I am so gonna be getting these spite gifts from my sister! I gave her kids the loudest most obnoxious things I could find find, and the more pieces the better! Yep, I am THAT aunt!! It's all in good fun so I know my day is coming!!
