Caylee Anthony's family seeks personal assistants; mom charged

Tragedy has transformed the family of Cindy and George Anthony into instant celebrities.

The couple's 2-year-old granddaughter, Caylee Marie Anthony, is missing.

Their daughter Casey Anthony is in jail, accused of neglect.

Suddenly their faces appeared on TV screens nationwide, pleading for help locating the little girl.

Like Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, they can hardly go outside without cameras following. So they're taking the Hollywood approach to fame: They're looking for personal assistants.

The Anthonys are advertising on MySpace for two unpaid personal assistants to help with everything from coordinating the volunteer effort to find Caylee to running errands for son Lee Anthony.

"It's not because we are 'somebody,' " Cindy Anthony said Tuesday. "It's because we want to return as many phone calls as we can. . . . I want to thank those people, and want to tell them that we've heard them and acknowledge them."

George Anthony said he and his son, who are coordinating the search for Caylee, hope assistants will help them handle the flood of people offering help, donations and possible tips on Caylee's whereabouts.

The assistants, one for George Anthony and one for Lee Anthony, will require a personal cell phone, reliable transportation, a valid drivers license and the ability to work on their own.

The helpers must be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"If someone can step up and assist us in some way . . .," George Anthony said.


Family in the spotlight

The family's plight became news three weeks ago, when Cindy Anthony called police to report that Caylee hadn't been seen in a month.

What started in Orlando quickly became a national story. People magazine put Caylee's face on the cover.

The Anthonys understand the interest but say they have been burned by the media.

Some reporters promised to focus on Caylee, the couple say, but instead quiz them about Casey Anthony in jail.

"It seems since that first week, everyone [in the media] has lost their focus," Cindy Anthony said.

"People are putting their own impressions and spins on this."

Once-quiet Hopespring Drive, where the Anthonys live, has been transformed into a live television studio at nearly all hours of the day for the past three weeks.

The steady hum of generators fills the air, while staffers from such national outlets as Fox News and MSNBC camp out under tents. Spotlights shine on the Anthony home at night while journalists report from the scene.

For some residents, it has become too much. A TV truck scorched one neighbor's grass, angering him.

But for others, it has become part of the scenery.

"You just get used to it," said Brittany Schieber, 22.


A celebrity in jail?

Casey Anthony, 22, sees none of this. She has been jailed since mid-July, while prosecutors reviewed the evidence and statements collected so far by detectives with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

But she, too, has gotten celebrity treatment, with her jailhouse telephone calls and visitors log broadcast on television and printed in newspapers.

On Tuesday, the State Attorney's Office filed formal charges of child neglect, a felony, and filing a false statement, a misdemeanor.

Detectives say she remains the key to learning what happened to Caylee.

And until the little girl is found, every new development promises to keep the Anthonys in the public eye.

UPDATED 3:00PM


Crime scene technicians and investigators working the Caylee Anthony disappearance just arrived at the Anthony's home.

A couple of the Orange County Sheriff's Office crime scene vans pulled up to the house on Hopespring Drive shortly after 2:40 p.m. The technicians walked out wearing blue gloves and carrying a box resembling a tackle box. They also carried a roll of black paper or fabric into the home.

When asked what they were looking for, one of the detectives told reporters, "We're working on it."

OK, Im going to say it. A) I think the mom killed the little girl,
B) I think her dad knew and tried to cover it up.
The grandmother sadly IMO is just a bistander at this point.

I do not like the fact they are advertising on Myspace for a PA. Ask neighbors or family members No?

The grandmother talks in circles. She is just as guilty of hindering the investigation as her daughter is.

They want 2 UNPAID assistants. Ok... I can understand the need if they are legit in this.

BUT did you guys see the "Requirements"... yes requirements!!!!

I wonder if they realize that by hiring an assistant, someone will have access to information that they might not want leaked. In a way, looking for an assistant makes it makes it look like they have nothing to hide. I still think they are hiding a lot, though.

Somehow, I don't think that the little girl is dead but that might be just because I just don't want to think that way.

Did anyone happen to see that someone named Zenaida filled out a visitor card at the apartment complex that she said she dropped Caylee in the day after she disappeared? Now it's speculated that she filled the card out herself to pose as the babysitter. Too bad the complex didn't have a security camera or ask for ID. They are comparing writing styles though.

I don't think the grandparents have anything to do with this. I think they are just as confused as everyone else. I think they *want* to believe their daughter didn't do something to their grandaughter hence the reason they defend her actions.

I also read today that the bio dad who died last year never knew he had a child nor did his family.
