BUMP: update as of 12/25/13......Need prayers please.........
With a very heavy heart Im turning to you all to ask for your prayers & strength to get through the next 2 weeks.
My DH & I have been trying to conceive for 6 years now, after a dozen IUSs, 2 failed Ivfs, 3 fertility dr's & 2 miscarriages we finally got the long awaited news we were pregnant. Im now 19 weeks & 4 days. My genetic tests came back that I have thrombophilla with 3 genetically inherited genes. We have been in hibernation praying everything would be ok for more than half of my pregnancy since Im still high risk. I go for weekly monitoring until the end. We did the new blood tests that are done in liu of the aminio or cvs tests & everything looked ok at week 13.
On thursday at my 19 week perinatal sonogram our world was ripped out from under us. We knew something was wrong when they spent over 30 minutes trying to see the baby's right side. The dr finally told us there was a problem....My baby is missing his right arm. What happened next was like living through a nightmare, we met with the Dr to discuss the next steps. I have a genetic counselor appointment today with an amino on Monday....the dr. wants to see what else could be wrong with my beautiful miracle baby. My DH & I are back in hiding now & have been crying, hugging, & staring into space since Thursday.
We have already done a ton of research and know that there could be much more heartache & tough decisions ahead to make after any new testing is done. I cant even explain how heart broken we are mixed with anger, being scared & completely hopeless. We are really trying to trust in god that everything will be alright but all the other emotions just consume us.
Please pray for strength for us & I pray that the only issue is that my little angel is only missing an arm. It kills me even to acknowledge that having one arm is the best case scenario in our new reality.
UPDATE as of 12/25/13: Before I jump into an update I wanted to first wish every single one of you a safe, healthy & happy holiday season! Next I wanted to thank every single one of you that reached out to me over the past 4 months about this post!! Your support, kinds,words & shared stories really kept my husband & I afloat in time when our world was quickly sinking.
Now for our update, its been a very long, emotional 4 months since finding out our baby's limb difference. Thankfully all the other genetic tests we could do in utero since September all came back negative...so at this time our little miracle angel just has her lower right forearm & hand missing. My husband & I have grown so much since this has occurred, we went from fearful, ignorant, scared parents to ones that are fearless, well educated & hopeful. We found tons of research online on support group websites like 'Born just right' & 'Little fin' that have taught us we are not alone & that our child if brought up right, has NO limits....did you know that Finding Nemo is the anthem for children born differently...next time you & your kids watch it, think of this!! We have learned that only our hangups & insecurities can step in the way of our child living a long, fulfilled life just like every other kid.
My plea to all of you that have kids or are in the process of having kids is too please support the kind of world that embraces differences in kids or adults regardless of what they are! This is our Christmas wish today, we want all kids to grow up in a bully free world, where kids go to school,to learn to make friends, not learn how to do an emergency shooting fire-drills. It all starts with us here today, we as adults can educate ourselves & try to teach our kids a better way to live, and appreciate all that we have or that has been given to us!
My husband & I truly feel blessed that after 6 long hard years of trying to conceive, that we finally did! We are due on 2/3 although spending the last 3 nights in the hospital due to pre mature contractions & breech cord issues, I think its safe to assume this kid is antsy to make an appearance out into this world a little early!
Thank you all so much again for taking this journey with us over the years, you all have been so supportive & never left our side!
