Does anyone have suggestions on how to train my dog to stop going on the couch?
He never does it when we are in the room with him, but he loves to sleep there overnight or when we aren't home.
It drives me nuts.
We are getting new couches and I want to break this habit.

Any suggestions?

I read putting aluminum foil on it freaks them out. I tried it, found my dog laying on top of it. I just keep a blanket on the couch and he lays there. He knows he is only allowed on when the blanket is there.

I have a cover on it. I still don't want him on there!
I saw the mats that they sell that alarm with pressure. So when he jumps up it will alarm and hopefully scare him down.

Any thoughts? Waste of money?

We wouldn't let our dog on the couch when we got her... She proceeded to bark like crazy until she was on the couch.... She won

Personally for me it would be a waste. My dog would eat the alarm. Lol

They sell these pads that have little plastic bumps on them. They were kind of expensive so We bought clear carpet runner from Home Depot and are using that upside down on the couch. She still jumps up there but she doesn't like they way it feels so she won't lay down. Hoping after a while she will get it.
