Rabies Bait - for raccoons

Hi Girls-

Just wanted to let you know that apparently they are doing some kind of massive rabies vaccination via bait that they are dropping by helicopter. I had NO idea that they were even doing this until we found my dog chewing on one that she found in the back yard. When we called the 800 number on the bait, we got poison control and they told us what to do with it - I just wanted to let you know because I really think that you shouldn't handle it if you are pregnant. Thankfully, my DH found it and he got rid of it - but they told him to use plastic bags and wash his hands REALLY well. They either look like square wooden boxes with gel packs inside, or we did have some loose gel packs (filled with red gel) lying on our patio.

They told me that the worst that could happen to the dog is that she would start vomiting - and it would be red since the dye is red. I will be calling the vet later to see what they have to say, since I have no idea how many more could be in the back yard - for now we are taking her out on a leash.

Just wanted to give you all a heads up - like I said, I had no idea that this was going on...

Oh, I am in the Smithtown area - but I am not sure where they are doing the dropping.
