Re: Tropical Storm?
How can a tropical storm be as bad as Sandy which was a superstorm/hurricane?
I think, once again, media is hyping.

Re: Tropical Storm?
Remember Sandy was downgraded to a tropical storm before it made landfall. Yea there were a thee factors but what they are reporting is that it may be very bad.

Tropical Storm?
According to a meteorologist page I follow, the models are all showing something different so it is not known whether it will hit or how bad it will be.

Right now they have no idea what track it will take, too many factors that could change. If it's going to impact us, it won't be until late weekend/early next week.
But I'm sure by Friday there will be a mad rush for bottled water, milk and eggs at the grocery stores!

I work for an insurance company. The blast was just put out that we are watching this damn storm as it could be a tropical storm or a category 1 and to start getting prepared.
I'm praying it's nothing.

Right NOW it's a tropical storm...it has several days to gain strength from what I understand.
I remember with Irene AND Sandy, everyone said it was just hype. Didn't turn out to be hype at all.

Tropical Storm?
Mmmmmm I live on the north shore. We had what should have been a little silly storm blow through and it knocked out power for days and lots of trees town. This was last month. It took a week plus to clean up. No one thought it would be bad. It was a freak storm. So I'm always on guard a little.

After sandy and not having power for 10 days I'm always cautious about potential storms. Yes there is media hype, but yes I'd rather be prepared

Total hype right now. It's too far out to determine anything. You can prepare but no need to to empty the supermarket shelves.
Eta: follow Tri -State Weather on FB. He is very accurate and doesn't hype like every other news channel

Get your D batteries now! After Sandy I could find a D battery anywhere for a while.
Some info to look over http://www.ready.gov/

I agree. It seems like most are saying it's still up in the air and nothing is set in stone. Definitely too early to tell.

Re: Tropical Storm?
Its really too early to tell what will happen. I don't anyone needs to panic but being prepared is good. All I know is that I will be filling my gas tanks up if it looks like it will be coming this way. Those gas lines were no joke after Sandy.

You're right. We should totally PANIC!
Remember. Bread and milk. Even if you are gluten free and lactose intolerant. Because....bread and milk.

Re: Tropical Storm?
Now upgraded to a Hurricane.
No it will not be a Sandy which was a tropical storm when it hit, but either way even if it hits Virginia, Maryland or New Jersey. Long Island will feel it. I believe the right side of a hurricane is the strongest for winds and since we have a really wet ground I think we could have a lot of downed trees. Lets hope the Euro model is right. The Euro predicted Sandy, but this time it has the storm turning out to sea. It is the only model having it turn out to sea.

Tropical Storm?
Today is my late day to go into work. I went at 7:30 this morning to an empty shop rite. While I'm not panicking yet I'd rather just stock up. We are staying with my parents until we close on our house. I don't want my poor parents going out for us so I did the shopping for all 4 of us in advance. No milk... That drives me crazy um if you loose power your milk will likely go bad! Lol Let's just hope it turns away and out to sea!!!

Re: Tropical Storm?
It's so far away right now that I think it's a little too early to worry about it being an issue for LI but I'm not a worrier so I'll just wait and see. I always have batteries and food in the house anyway so even if this became something for us to worry about next week we're okay and good to go.

Tropical Storm?
My best friend texted me to say her office was in a tizzy (she works in science for the government, not weather but close). 50/50 chance it could slam NYC and has Sandy-like potential.
At this point, just prepare. What's the worst in being prepared?
