9/11 exhibit- what age?

My town is hosting a mobile 9/11 exhibit. My daughter is in second grade and her school (K-2) is not visiting but parents have been encouraged to bring their kids. We are allowed to sign them out during the school day to take them. It's located on school property.

Initially I dismissed the idea but DD's best friend is going with her mom. I have not had a chance to see the exhibit myself which makes it hard though the district says it's appropriate for all ages. I'd see it by myself first regardless but only if I want her to go. She has a vague idea about 9/11 but it's not something I like to talk about, in part because it still upsets me a lot and in part because she tends to be a little anxious.

Would you take a second grader?

Honestly, I would probably hold off.

There's plenty of time for kids to learn about the horrors of the world.

We've touched on the subject a little with DS about bad people knocking down buildings but that's it.

I agree with PP. I would hold off for my kids.

I would take my DS but in the way you described your situation with how you feel and your daughter being anxious, I would skip it.

I would not. 9-11 directly impacted our family and even still, we do not speak of it to our DD just yet. Too great in magnitude IMO, for a young one to grasp and needlessly worry about. I plan to hold off until probably around 10 years old.

I personally would have no issue with my child seeing the exhibit. She has watched the Fox news replay of what happened each year. It's important for my kids to know this part of our history. To each their own though. I think only you can answer your question.

If she's the anxious type, I would stay away.
