9 month old, hand gestures
DS often make a hand gesture that has me concerned.
Basically, he will hold his arms out to the sides, and kind of open and close his hand repeatedly-bending at the fingers-not sure if this makes sense.
He seems to mostly do this when he is agitated or excited.
Anyone else's kid do this?

Yes...Ds will be 10 months next week and does something similar. I plan on talking about it next week at his well check. A few months ago, I noticed that he would bang his hand on his leg a lot too. Doctor said he was fine...

Re: 9 month old, hand gestures
i think i understand? DS rolls his wrists while he hands are in fists. i was told at this age they still dont have full control so they do weird movements when theyre excited cause they want to do something else, but cant. if it concerns you try video taping it and show the ped. but im sure hes still developing his control.

DS is 8 months and does this sometimes - kind of like he's just learning that his fingers bend.

Re: 9 month old, hand gestures
DD is 8.5 months old and from time to time looks at her hands and folds her fingers in and out like she's counting. This only lasts for about 1-2 seconds. For about 3 months now, she has been slapping her right arm on her thighs or in the air. This only lasts a few seconds too. However, I don't think this is a problem. She has no problems engaging us when she does this. She has her 9 month appointment in about 2 weeks,. so we'll bring this up, but I think she is just discovering her hands and arms. A few days ago, she learned how to switch the light switch on and off with her finger!

Luce does it all the time, and almost always when he's excited/agitated. I think his neurons are just snapping on all cylinders and that is how they 'get it out"
I wasn't too concerned about it before. I hope this thread doesn't ruin that

Aw-don't be, for some reason I am nervous about everything with Owen.
I was never this was with Claire-I think because of his hearing issues-that kind of burst my bubble from the start shattering all confidence in his health. Don't go down this path with me

Kinda like he's stretching? DS does all kinds of weird gestures. He slaps and bangs everything and then makes noises like an ape. I wouldn't worry about it.
Haha.. We call our DD our little dinosaur from all the screeching noises she makes!
