9 Weeks- strep B positive?!
Please help me- BTDT moms, I'm nervous. Maybe for no reason. In my last urine test yesterday, I tested positive for Strep B. The Dr. wants to put me on a penicillin.
Has anyone had this? is it ok? Was everything ok eventually? Normal?
TIA- worried!

Re: 9 Weeks- strep B positive?!
When i was pregnant almost 3 years ago I tested positive at my first OB appt after I was released from the RE. I didnt have to get retested later on in the pregnancy but did take an antibiotic during delivery. It is very common. I had to take something other than penn b/c i am allergic.

9 Weeks- strep B positive?!
She's giving me an oral penicillin now. Is this normal/ok? It's for 5 days, but it's soooooo early!
Thanks for your response.

I was on 2 rounds of penicillin when I was that early... not for GBS but for phlebitis. It was totally fine.

As long as your doc says it's safe, I'd rather that than the iv penicillin during labor. I hated that! It burned badly going in and delayed my labor since the doc wouldn't break my water till I had two full bags in which took a long time.

9 Weeks- strep B positive?!
Funny thing is, I tested negative for it with my last pregnancy. Frankly, I am so grossed out by it, thinking there is "stuff" down there. ew.

I tested negative with my first and tested positive with my second and this pregnancy. They never gave me anything while pregnant. I got IV antibiotics during labor. Everything was fine.

my dr put me on vanco also because of a "cillin" allergy and I ended up being allergic to that also. (being in labor + allergic reaction = not fun) I got a little less than one full dose before I gave birth and all was ok. rest easy, you have plenty of time and it's super common.
