Toy shortages
Does anyone believe this?
Everyone I know, myself included, has begun their holiday shopping based on what the news said. No one has noticed empty toy shelves. Just the typical “hot toy” item that is difficult to find but is normal, a stupid squishmallow haha. But here I am, almost done shopping and I could still buy everything today and have most of it tomorrow on Amazon.
I’m just wondering if this is being exaggerated like the toilet paper crisis?
Am I just lucky that my family and friends wanted things that were easy to get?

I’ve actually wondered the same. I definitely rely on Amazon so have bought a lot and have some in my save for later part in my cart, and watch the price keep rising. So I’m assuming the news is getting to people and they are buying early. I also heard that magical mixie toy is the hot item, thank goodness I don’t need to track it down this year.

I am not concerned. My kid barely plays with toys as is so buying tons of toys is a waste. Worst case scenario, I’d try to buy things on a FB garage site. He honestly wouldn’t know they difference as most of those toys are in excellent condition. I know I am an outlier though.

I am not concerned but I think the situation is real. I have had numerous things "stuck on delivery delays" and until everyone starts getting back to work, it will not get any better. I'm in the middle of a house reno and I can't tell you the amount of times we needed to switch up what we are doing because the objects could not arrive in a timely manner.

I believe there will be, that is why I have bought what I needed weeks ago online. Most of the stuff my kids want, I can buy in the stores. I am fine with that.

I believe there will be as well. Since most stuff is produced outside of the US - and there are issues getting things off ships, once everyone really starts shopping, there will be shortages.

Agree, there is going to massive delays with shipping. That is a fact, so it is best to order early. I do think hoarders, hysterics and media will make it worse with all the hype and frenzy.
I feel your pain on the reno. Construction renovations are ridiculous. I just went through an aggressive 5 week reno and it was hard to find a tub, appliances had to be ordered the day we closed, chasing down particular tiles and vanity countertops. Hurricane Ida closing down stores and banks for a few days did not help. I don't know how we managed to pull it off.
We just went yesterday to order appliances for our unit and the refrigerator is back ordered till Dec. 31. My husband has been waiting for materials for a few of his jobs since April.

That's due to the chip shortage I believe. Appliance and cars are hit hard. I had to buy my car off lease because there were literally no cars to be had and the dealer told me when they do come in people will be paying over sticker for them due to the chip shortages. I was like no way- and just bought the car rather than turning it in. The sales guy was like, yeah that's a good move.

Yes, and I got the Fridge with the screen. Always have to be extra. LOL.
We were only able to put the order through at Best Buy, so who knows if it will even come end of the year. All other stores were not letting them put the order in.
You go to home depot and stuff is wiped out, we have to travel all over NJ for materials. Fun times.

Re: Toy shortages
While I think the news might be exaggerating things a bit the fact is, there are a TON of shortages since COVID started. The supply chain is still a complete mess so no doubt there will be things that might be hard to get your hands on for Xmas, maybe not toys specifically but other items for sure.
I am just going to shop like I normally do and figure it out as I go. There is nothing specific that I am looking for right now that is a "must get" so I am not stressing all that much about it.

Appliances have been so impossible to get. Last fall we ordered a new washer and dryer and those took about two months. In November we ordered a new cooktop, ovens, and dishwasher and all were backordered until this past April. It was insane, I feel your pain.

Re: Toy shortages
Part of me is thinking they want us to get into panic mode and spend $$, but looking around stores you notice the shelves aren't stocked....we can get things, but it's not fully stocked.
I don't want to deal with it regardless, so I have been starting to shop at least for the big items like electronics because those always are a pain to get.

Re: Toy shortages
I am not in the market for toys anymore and I do know there are delays for many things but I haven't found a problem when I go shopping lately.
I think the media blows things up to scare people and have them run out and buy up as much as they can.

ITA! Thankfully when we ordered our appliances everything was still working but on the way out so we were able to wait out the 6 months but I don't know what you do if something breaks and you need an appliance right now.
It's really crazy how many shortages there are (beyond appliances) and beyond that, the prices of things have just skyrocketed as well. Everything is so expensive and nobody is offering any deals or lower prices because they know they got you right now. COVID really screwed things up, unfortunately it will take quite some time for this to rebound to normal.

Nobody is scared GC. Just take a look at the shelves in stores or even look online, most things are barely stocked and plenty of things are either out of stock or backordered. The shortages are VERY real which doesn't mean you can't get things but the reality is, many things you will be waiting months for and that goes well beyond toys. It's cars, electronics, computer parts, furniture, appliances and more. The supply chain is broken and things haven't quite rebounded yet.

We had this with our oven. We had to wait for awhile and had to make everything in our Power XL. We survived but it was a pain as you couldn't make anything big.

That will be next. We were hoping to find it on the shelves but every store is wiped clean. We do use Chewy for other things so I told DH to just add a case of the wet food to the order next time. They have single cans here and there at the stores so we've been buying a few random cans when we see it, but we like to buy a case since we have 2 cats who eat like pigs. LOL

Re: Toy shortages
I can't tell you the amount of things I've ordered since this whole thing started that were delayed and then never arrived. Never had that happen before. Ordered appliances last year that were on 6 month backorder. A year ago. So I don't doubt it will only get worse especially through the holiday season with the supply chain being broken..

Same. And my elderly cat is extremely picky. I have had luck finding the wet food he likes at Tractor Supply of all places!

We lost both our cars and our washer/dryer due to Ida. We’ve replaced one car so far and paid $$$$$. We were able to get the washer/dryer delivered directly from LG and luckily they came the same day our plumber was here doing other work so he was able to install. For those who need appliances, check to see if you can get delivered directly from the manufacturer.
