Re: 955 wplj being a Christian music station?
I have a hard time listening to traidional radio stations like that any more to be honest. Too much talk. I want all music. I also don't like the commercials- even on Sirius that i am paying for, i have to hear commercials on stations like Z100 etc
I prefer the stations on Sirius that are all music, no talk and no commercials.
I don't need to hear what some millennial intern did on her Tinder date or everyone's opinion on bullshyt and their inane chatter all morning long.
I need music when I"m driving.

Terrestrial radio is becoming a dinosaur.
This. I forgot PLJ existed until this post.
Another thing millenials are killing!

will miss them. Been listening for as long as I can remember
Scott & Todd got us through 9/11. I will never forget that.
I remember listening to them a lot during the 9/11 and they did a great job getting people through that time.
In recent years I have not been much of a listener. Scott and Todd's shtick got old. The new players were OK, but honestly Z100 got better. The music selection wasn't the best either. It seems like they have the wrong mix of music and talent.
I have no interest in a christian music station.

Seriously? Christian radio over top 40 in New York?
I know, scary, right?!?
I worked for PLJ and have fond memories of it. It's so sad. End of an era.
Why is this "scary?"
To the OP, I haven't listened to traditional radio in probably 5 years....I suspect, they are the first to go here of a dying breed.

Its interesting to me how many think the regular radio will be a thing of the past. I always listen to the radio. I let my Sirius account go because I never used it. But maybe I'm a dinosaur too! LOL

Same here. I couldn't justify paying $10 a month for satellite radio when I'm in my car 20 minutes a day.

That won't last long.... a lot of new cars don't have CD players anymore. Odds are, your next new car won't have a CD player.
People just bluetooth their phones to their cars and either listen to music on their phones, audio books, web based radio, etc. The car companies can save money if they completely eliminate the radio and radio antenna. Not much, but if they can save $5 for a million cars, they'll definitely try it.

I was super surprised that my 2019 car had a single CD player in it. Shocked actually.

955 wplj being a Christian music station?
I don't ever listen to the radio now but I have such fond memories of my dad driving me to school and us listening to Scott & Todd and their phone scams.
Sad.

I would love to know why it is "scary", that's a bit extreme.
It can be quite therapeutic at times. I listen to everything when driving, classical, country, r&b, blues, rap, everything.
Like Nell, I need music when driving.

Because Christianity is scary, don't you know Terrestrial radio is a dinosaur, just like broadcast tv. I forgot WPLJ even existed. I used to listen to them when I was young, but not in years.

I think this poster meant it is scary that a station that has had such a long run, with millions of listeners went under... not that christian radio is taking over. Change is scary and it is a shame for so many people to lose their jobs.

Can you download the discs to a hard drive in the car? That's how mine works - put in one CD, download it and then never have to have it in the car gain

Maybe. I haven't tried it yet because to be honest, I don't even have any CD's I don't think! I might have some hidden somewhere in my house!

I have a bunch of CD's that are total dust collectors but I feel bad throwing them out. I have no idea why because I throw stuff out all the time. Did everyone else just toss them? If yes, I'm doing that exact thing when I get home today!

Thank you! That is exactly what I meant. Scary was never in reference to Christian radio or a religious judgment. It was scary in losing WPLJ. As I stated in that same post- I worked there in my youth. It was my childhood and my college years for me. To me, WPLJ is an institution of NYC culture and to think that it just won't exist anymore does frighten me. My DD won't get to listen and when I tell her I worked there and did all these cool things, she won't have a clue. It's the end of an era for me. It's a thing of the past. That is scary.

I just think terrestrial radio in general will be a thing of the past for our children. As it is, DD has no clue what TV was like before streaming, On Demand, DVR's, pausing and fast forwarding. Or life before smart phones, ipads, Alexa. She won't know or care about an old station on terrestrial radio anymore than she will care about shows I watched as a kid on WPIX. I don't look at it as scary, I look at it as progress.

I heard that this morning. It was depressing. I can't believe they are going off of the air. Its a popular radio station so I'm surprised it was bought out by a christian radio station. I'm going to miss them.

When we leased our last truck in 2016 and it no longer came with a CD player, I just tossed them all. We have a BOSE system that we listen to in the house and use our phones to stream music onto. The CD's were in the trunk of our car in a bin at that point. So there was no need to keep them.
Three years later and our new truck does not have a CD player either. A bunch of friends have also gotten new cars in that time and they too no longer have CD players. I think most car manufacturers are no longer installing them.
