DH initially wanted  and I was all for a dog. DH agrees that getting a dog 1st is a great idea .

I have to say a dog, at least in my case. I work full time and so does DH, I often entertain a lot at night, go out to dinners, constantly in the City, etc.. and kept saying to myself I can't imagine doing this and having a child. Well DH got me a puppy for x-mas last year and WOW was that an eye opener.
It really gives you an idea that you can't come and go as you please anymore, this living thing relies on you for basically everything. Not saying a dog is the same as having a baby, but it def opens your eyes to many things you did not know before.

We got the dog first and in some ways I do think it helped train us to be parents!
