a beginner temper question
Okay, so I decided to start taking my temps in the am. My question is, is it normal for your waking temps to remain in the 97's. I have been 97.2, 97.2, 97.2, 97.3, 97.4, 97.7.....etc. Do you ever go above to 98???

Re: a beginner temper question
It's normal-it is usually around the same until after you O. Then it should rise by about .4-.8 on average. If it stays up for 18 days after you are PG-but an EPT will probably tell you that before!

We're taking our temps with a basal thermometer. After you O, you're temps rise and stay up until AF shows again. This tells you if you ovulate. The period after you ovulate is called the luteal phase. If you're temps for 18 days after you O, you are probably PG. However, most women's luteal phase is about the same from month to month. (Mine is 13 days for example) So if you're luteal phase lasts longer than normal, but less than 18 days, you still might be safe testing.
There's a little more to it than this, but I hope this gives you a bit of insite into what we're talking about.

I've only hit 98 a couple of time. But my waking temps are also around 96.6 to 96.9.

Re: a beginner temper question
Okay thanx. I am really trying to learn!! But it can be very tricky. I am already on CD 17 and I haven't O'd yet....according to my temps. Is this possible. AF would be due next thursday or friday 8/24 - 8/25. Shouldn't I have O'd by now?

Hi!!!
To answer your question...I am still learning myself. However, Thiadora answered it as best as I understand it at this point of my planning.
Good luck

But I have to admit I'm still really confused!
So you mean to tell me that you don't ovulate every month?
If your temps are "high" or "low" (I'm guessing above 98 is high, below is low ) does this determine whether you're PG or not?
Where can I read more?

High temps can indicate Pregnancy but not for everyone. I have found that if it's high for YOU that coudl mean pregnancy. You can look up charting or basal body temperature on google and get an explanation. Taking Charge of Yoru Fertility by Toni Weschler is GREAT. It teaches you so many things aout your body. My temps were always "low" I have read this could mean a thyroide disorder but i was tested for that and i do not have one so temps are really individual

Also I didn't answer your ovulation question. The ONLY time as far as I know that I have not ovulated is when I have m/c. There are some people that do not ovulate every month. If you do not have a regular cycle(AF every month)there is more of a chance of you not ovulating because it is all tied together-this is something i don't know much about but honestly all my info is from the internet and TCOYF

So far I ovulate since going off the pill every month.
When you're on the pill, you don't ovulate. Some women don't ovulate when they come off the pill. It's called anovulatory. (This also happens in adolescents, when a woman is breastfeeding or approaching menopause.) One time when my sister went off the pill she did not ovulate for a year. The dr finally had to give her something to bring on her period.
TCOYF is a very informative. What I've learned has come from that book and the wonderful women on this board.
