A bit down today... (little long) - UPDATE AT BOTTOM

So I am on CD8 using Gonal F. I went on Saturday morning for blood & sono - went to NYC office as mine is closed on the weekend. So I get this dr. who can't see my right ovary due to my fibroid but says there are a bunch of follicles on my left side. I told him that concerns me as my left tube is blocked. He asked whether I had discussed IVF with my regular dr. b/c with a blocked left tube and the right side blocked by the fibroid I am a prime candidate for IVF. I told him I knew about the fibroid - just didn't know it was blocking anything.

I go back to my doctor this morning for more bloodwork sono and I tell him about my conversation with this other doctor and he says that it is not impossible for me to get pg with IUI & injectibles but as we discussed IVF is a better option due to the tubal factor. I'm a little peeved at this b/c he never told me the fibroid was blocking anything. So I told him if this round doesn't work I want to go right onto IVF. He tells me they are closed for the holidays and booked for IVF for the beginning of January - that I will have to wait for the end of January.

To top it all off... I have one dominant follicle on the right side and one less so on the left (which is blocked so it means nothing), and a few smaller ones on the right - which he doesn't have much hope for catching up with the dominant one. So looks like I only have one egg this cycle.

I've been bummed since Saturday but now I am really down...

I would personally start looking for another RE. Being booked and closed for IVF is unacceptable in my case.

I am in almost the exact same situation as you. I had an ectopic in June where my right tube was removed. We started trying again in Sept. I have always gotten pregnant in the past 1st or 2nd cycle...Not now. I discussed with my Dr the other day asking if my left tube was blocked and he said, I have no way of knowing that...ummm how about looking when you cut me open dumbazz We will probably move to IVF in Jan, Feb or March if I do not get PG in the next cycle or so. Problem is my insurance does not cover IVF! Unlimited IUI's but no IVF

ETA: I know how you feel. I was so down when I did not get PG last cycle....it gets very hard month after month.

Urgh! How could he not know if your left tube was blocked??

Do we put too much faith in these doctors?

hang in there, this whole process ***** and I wish that none of us had to go thru it! I have been feeling down about using the gonal-f and today is the 1st day I'm actually excited and feeling at all hopeful. Here's some for you!!!

just so you know you can get PG from ovulating from the side of your blocked tube. Something about the other tube reaching ov er and grabbing it (sorry I cant think oft the medical term right now), but it happened to mrsj, she got PG on IUI when her only follie was on the blocked side.

Update 12/13 - I had a sono this morning and the doctor found that my dominant follicle is still on my right side and that I have quite a few. I am triggering tonight and having an IUI tomorrow morning and Saturday morning.

Hopefully I'll have good news for the New Year!
