A blog about The Mighty Quinn (boy with very special needs) that I wanted to share

I posted a long while back about a very special boy named Quinn who faces unique challenges. He suffered a stroke in utero and has PHACES syndrone - an extremely rare brain and pulmonary disorder. . . and as if that weren't enough he was given an autism diagnosis a number of months ago.

Anyway - I became friendly with his mom through another website and she keeps a blog about her son - The Mighty Quinn. I thought I'd pass along what she wrote the other day because I thought it was just so heartwarming.

Quinn is 2 and a half.

Dear Quinny

Today you had mommmy in tears. I was so proud of you today, watching you during your therapy. You worked so hard with your OT and PT. Sitting back and watching mommy was able to see just how far you have come and I must have been beaming in that room.

When you held onto your pt's hand and walked across the room I was reminded why I believe in miracles but mostly why I believe in you. When I watched you push that wagon walking behind it you showed how Mighty you are. I watched as you looked at me to see if I was watching and that meant so much to me to know you looked for my approval. Your dimples were out and you chubby cheeks high with pride and the joy of independence.

I thought back to that day in June 2006 when my world came crashing and and the doctors said they did not know if you would ever walk and how I looked at you so tiny hooked up to those monitors and I thought, yes he will because he is the Mighty Quinn. That day I wrote the Mighty Quinn on the board behind your hospital bed so everyone would know who they were dealing with.

I saw you get mad today and it was both funny and encouraging because we want you to show us when you are not happy. I tried not to laugh but you looked so funny getting mad because I never see it.

I saw that twinkle in your eye when you looked at your OT because I know you have a huge crush on her and when you coloured you made sure she was watching. I was a little jealous that you showed her your dimples but I know I have to share my monkey.

You are working so hard and showing what mommy knew all along, that her monkey is indeed a very smart little boy.

You amaze and inspire me my love.

Tonight I will dream again of a smiling little blond boy running free in the wind. Every night the dream gets a little clearer.

I love you Monkey

xoxoMommy
