A boy and a girl are NOT identical twins.
Yesterday I was in Trader Joe's and it must have been old lady day. All the old ladies were gushing over the babies, fine. I don't really mind that it takes 1/2 an hour to do a 10 minute shopping trip because I get stopped every two seconds. I kind of mind the old lady who kept touching my hand, but at least she wasn't touching the babies.
But there was one old lady who was trying to argue with me about them being identical. Actually I didn't really mind this, I found it pretty funny. She did her oohing and ahhing and asked if they were a boy and a girl. I said yes. Then she asked if they were identical. And I said "no, they are a boy and a girl." And she says "yes, but they could still be identical, they look so alike!"
I just smiled at her, and told her again they were not identical.
I don't think she believed me.

I think the common reason this is said is that I think people believe "identical" means "looks" and nothing more.

there sis and bro they can still look alike without being identical twins..
Old ladys are soo funny. I had the one ask me when i was pregnant if my older dd was going to be a Big Sister or Big Brother...

I'm a twin. My sister has blond hair & blue eyes. I used to say "You don't know what the word identical means do you?"
They really don't. We always found it amusing.

The next time someone argues with you go into a whole long explaination of twinning..
You can even give them the very special circumstances involving a set of identicals who were in fact boy and girl...
They'll have that glazed look in their eyes in no time...

I go through this all of the time! I used to fight it out, now I just let it go....
The same way, people used to say "two boys?" When dd was rockin' all pink from head to toe! I just smiled and would say "No"

People would ask me about thier ages since they were different weights, I started telling them one was 4 months and the other was 6 months but they were twins. 
There is also a lady at work who deons't beleive mine are idnetical. Apparently the Dr's saying they shared a placenta was not good enough proof for her. No **** they look different they are different weights. If you lost 25% of your body weight you would look different too.
