A/C units and anderson windows
I have Anderson windows (the ones you crank to open).....does anyone have an a/c unit in these?

We had casement windows. I actually made plexiglass panels to put in the top half of the window, and used a window A/C in the bottom half. Not a great solution, but the best one I could come up with. It worked for about 10 years, until we just got CAC last year.
I also used a portable A/C, and made small plywood panels to fill in the window gap at the very top and bottom when the window was half-way open, and the filler panel from the A/C was in the opening.
