a dumb question regarding vehicles for you guys!

crashing!

So, we have 2 kids and DH has a little car and I have a Honda CRV. With 2 car seats, we are already packed to the gills.

We always talk about when we will have a 3rd child and how we'd have to upgrade both of our cars...... and then we start to wonder what do people with multiples do!

So, what did you do?
Did you already have a large vehicle?
or did you have to trade up?
do you BOTH have a larger vehicle? or only one? how does all of that work?

We are trying to plan when to have the 3rd, but this car thing needs to be settled for us first.

Just curious! Chat Icon

We were on the verge of a new car anyway so we went really big. We got the Nissan Armada so we have plenty of roon and extra seating in case anyone else needs to get in the car with us. That is the only car that the girls go in. If we have to go anywhere with them we take the truck. If need be we also have a Mcds but we dont drive it very much. Especially since the girls came.

We have two cars and only one of them will hold three car seats -- this will limit us, of course, but we don't want to commit to another car payment when both our Honda Civic (DH's work car) and my Nissan truck are already paid off.

We know that our two boys' Britax car seats will fit in the truck with an infant seat but it's certainly going to be a squeeze. We're considering buying new, smaller brands of car seats (even if we spend $200+ each, that's cheaper than car payments for another 4 years).

I only have 1 DC but we both had smallish cars.
Own 1 and it's new so we are keeping it for a long time - it's DH's work car. Leased the other so when that was up - we leased another and went all in...got a minivan.
We want at least 1 more DC. Will always use the minivan when we are going out with kids...DH's car doesn't need to be used with the kids. It has a carseat in it in case of emergency...but if he would be with kids for the day and I'm out - I'd just take his small car.
IMO you don't need 2 big cars.

before the twins we had a prius and a p/u truck. we bought a honda minivan, this is the only car the girls will go in, unless we seperate them. we also have 2 large dogs and all 6 of us head to albany often so a smaller car would not have worked

Not a mom of multiples, but I will have 3 soon. And luckily, I won't have to upgrade my car. I have a 7-passenger Buick Enclave, and it is one of the most roomy 3rd row crossovers (meaning the 3rd row is a full row, and can fit adults comfortably). And my first 2 kids are older, so one will be out of a car seat soon, the other is in a high back booster, so I will only have one giant car seat that needs to fit with the other 2.

DH has a Jeep Wrangler, 4-door, but I haven't even tried to figure out if 3 kids will it (again, only need for one booster and one car seat, the other will be old enough for no seat).

I am NOT a minivan mom. If I did have to upgrade, I'd look into a Cadillac Escalade or a GMC Yukon.

Re: a dumb question regarding vehicles for you guys!

My lease on my Ford Edge went up in January when I was still pregnant with the girls.

We leased a Toyota Sienna (mini van). I love it, but have no desire to remain a mini van mom. Once the lease is up we will probably go for a 3rd row SUV (I have a 3 year old DS and 7 month old twin DDs).

DH has a Hyundai Elantra. He will probably never have a car that can fit the 3 at once. He has 1 convertible car seat for when he is running out with just DS. And on a day where he may need to take them all he takes my van and I take his car.

Since I am a SAHM, there is none of the pick up/drop off from day care which is probably the only time I'd see a need for us to both have room in our car to fit 3 kids at once (in car seats).

We were in the midst of fertility treatments when one of our cars died. DH kept my car as his work car.... and knowing the risk of multiples we leased a truck- Toyota Highlander. I reallllly love this truck. It is super afordable and has everything we need. Third row seating, plenty of room, good on gas, safe, handles well in snow, and bad roads (we have a house in the middle of no where, upstate) etc. We are planning on another, so we may need more space then. DH really wants an Escalade. Since I previously made him sell his sports carChat Icon he gets to pick next one. He flat out refuses to get a mini vanChat Icon But a third kid may change his mind. I know that all my friends that said NEVER to a mini later song its praises.

We have two cars but one being a mini van.

DH's car doesnt have any car seats in it just a booster. We couldn't fit all three kids in the backseat.

I was very anti mini van but its the best thing we did its so roomy for everyone.

I have the Surburban for the kids and love it. I refuse to drive a mini-van and the mini-van doesnt have enough room for all my stuff....
