A fool-proof way to head off and prevent tantrums
This was all DH... when DS starts throwing a tantrum, we both say "It's TAAAAAAANTRUUMM TIIIIIMMME" (said in the "t-shirt time" voice of Pauly D ) and DS always stops in his tracks and says "No!" and stops throwing the tantrum. I hope this works forever

Re: A fool-proof way to head off and prevent tantrums
LB, I've been reading Happiest Toddler on the Block, a big part of the method is acknowledging that you understand and can relate to the child when they are having a tantrum, but using only short simple phrases.
I think you're doing that, with saying "its tantrum time", acknowledging to your DS that you understand where he's coming from.
I could be totally wrong, but wow so glad you found something to work! I'm watching our cousins grow up, and its scaring me. Perfect sweet babies turned ... toddler

Re: A fool-proof way to head off and prevent tantrums
LOL that's hilarious
when Jack was younger, he used to go "invisible" when he started crying/tantruming. He'd start and I'd look around saying Oh no, where's Jack...I can't see him. He'd immediately stop crying and start laughing, he thought this was the funniest thing. It worked for a LOOOOOONG time

Funny, I took it as no kid will knowingly do anything a parent wanted so they do the complete opposite

Re: A fool-proof way to head off and prevent tantrums
Enjoy it while you can.... I try something similar with DD, and it just makes the tantrum worse. She's still upset about whatever caused the tantrum, PLUS she's annoyed at me for doing something like that....
