A Halloween style birthday party--opinions wanted

If you and your child were invited to a costume party in October for a kid's birthday, would you find that annoying or would you welcome the opportunity to put your child in costume for another day in addition to Halloween? Would you prefer to save their costume for Halloween? Would you use the same costume? I am probably going to have to face this decision every year when planning birthday parties. I LOVE Halloween and I think a costume party would be fun but I am not sure others would agree. Having the party on Halloween is not an option because we already have other plans for this year.

Can we do a theme? We'll dress all the boys up as characters from the Little Rascals and Marianna can be Darla...

Aaaaaaaaaawwwwww, Dylan can be Alfalfa but he is starting to look like Spanky. We will paint my dog's eye like Petey's.

"Alfalfa, will you swing me before we have lunch?"

"Sure Darla!"

"Hey, Romeo, what about your promise to the He-Man Woman Haters Club?!"

"I'm sorry, Spanky, I have to live my own life."

(I think we found the theme of my next avatar pic.)

Would I regret if his first birthday pictures are all of kids, including my DS, in costume?

Re: A Halloween style birthday party--opinions wanted

My oldest nephew was born near the end of October and my sister swore up and down she would keep her legs locked so this kid wasn't born on Halloween for this very reason.

Though Kerie, I may very well put you in charge of scouting out a costume for a two month old infant girl.

My birthday is a few days after Halloween and I often had Halloween birthday parties. The other kids loved it because they got to wear their costumes again.

It's a cute idea! I went to one a couple years ago, it was fun! And I got some cute pictures of me and Matteo dressed up together b/c I didn't get a chance to dress up on Halloween!

I'm sure the kids will get out of the costumes if they get tired of being in them. I changed Matteo out of his at that party after a while b/c it was hot and he wanted to play without it!

Re: A Halloween style birthday party--opinions wanted

i had a halloween b-day party for my DD last year. It was great, the weather was awesome the kids played in the yard, did a craft, ate pizza, ran around some more, pinata, ran, cake and left. The moms were actually happy that they got to wear the costumes more than once- the only thing i suggest if any have small peices or accessories- leave them home, they get lost.

Re: A Halloween style birthday party--opinions wanted

For Alex's 2nd birthday I did a halloween themed party and invited all the kids to come in their costumes - all the parents LOVED the idea and the kids had so much fun wearing the costumes. We did halloween activities, like pumpkin painting and making halloween cookies. It was a lot of fun!

But just so you dont annoy those hard to please parents you can always put "costume optional" on the invite. Chat Icon
