A Lesson For Our Newer Girls....please read!!!
I have noticed that a lot of the 'newer girls' tend to say things like, i'm not having wine tonight, i'm not going to eat seafood tonight, etc...
PLEASE, if you take only ONE thing away from this website....
Have your glass of wine - you don't share a bloodstream with any unborn baby for awhile.. PLEASE don't stop living your life.
You don't know how long this is going to take and you do not want to look back with regret on things you didn't do...
Did I think it would take us more than 6 months to conceive? Well, to be honest, yes, I had a feeling it would...but there are girls that have been around 7-14 months.. You can bet they aren't looking back going, wow, I wish I did that then....
LIVE YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ENJOY!!!!
**getting off my soapbox now...thanks for listening!
**please note - i am not a professional, doctor or anyone of any clue in the medical world. I'm just stating something that I have learned over the last 6 months. How would i have felt if 6 months ago i stopped doing something i loved because 'what if?'.
That's all..

I agree!!!
i just want to share - I didn't know I was pregnant until I was a whole week late. That made me 5 wks PG. It was summer and we just got married. We drank almost every night. I even drank the night before I tested. I was late, and figured, if I was PG, it would be my last drink for a while. Sure enough, it was. Cailen is healthy and happy!

Thanks for posting this Jess. It makes me feel a lot better throughout everything! It is so easy to get wrapped up in the whole process and develop paranoia when it is completely not necessary!

While the concept of what you say is good, about continuiing to live your life when TTC, I do want to warn you that the statement you made is misleading. Whiel the fetus doesn't tap into the blood supply until about 5 weeks, alcohol circulating in your blood steam can pass into teh uterus and palcenta and affect a developing zygote and fetus. I'm not saying don't have your glass of wine but be careful because you posted an untrue fact.
Also, some women have no problem giving up alcohol or caffeine when TTC. I stopped consuming and alcohol, caffeine and medication 6 months BEFORE even TTC because I wanted to rid my body of any toxins. Maybe I was more conscientious because I had a prior MC, and because of all of my research but this is how I feel. Is this for everyone, no, but I am happy with my decisions........ Just remember that a lot of women come on here asking for advice and will take people's word on things like drinking and medication while TTC whithout doing the research and asking their physician first. Most physicians recomend avoiding alchohol and medication when TTC and you will see this in any medical journal and text book.
Just something to think about.

While what you have said is very informative and appreciated, I think the OP was talking about girls who have just decided to TTC and may not have any other complicating factors. Many couple decide to TTC, and the woman automatically changes her life/lifestyle which causes some sort of stress on her body, which will enevitably effect their chances of conceiving. I am assuming the OP was referring to those women who have recently decided to TTC. I by no means am trying to start issues, just simply station my opinion.

Jess, I totally agree! I spent 3 cycles being "good" for the 2WW, no sushi, no caffeine, no alcohol, no fun! Guess what, it got me nothing but BFNs. This cycle I'm still enjoying a glass of wine with dinner and having my cup of coffee in the morning and you know what? I am so much more relaxed and happy because I still feel like me, just with more BDing!! I finally realized that being "good" wasn't helping but maybe being "me" will! to us all!

Just something to think about.
The placenta does not even exist before about 6 or 7 weeks...it only then starts to develop...before that point, there is no shared bloodstream between fetus and mother..
The magic time most women will experience morning sickness is right around then (7 weeks) and it is due to the elevated hormone levels needed to create the placenta...just some trivia for everyone!
Just wanted to clarify!!! I know you mean well in posting information but your info is incorrect.....it is perfecty 100% fine to enjoy drinks in the 2WW.

you are 100% correct! enjoy and live your life. the way i look at it is--if your body isn't healthy to begin with, TTCing now probably isn't the right thing to do. get yourself in order first.
if you ARE healthy, enjoy your life! have that wine! drink that coffee! wine and coffee don't build up in the body...you don't need to rid yourself of them. they are not evil.
you never know how long TTC will take

I know the placenta isn't formed until then but alcohol in your system can effect the fetus developing as well as drugs.......You can read this in any medical journal.

Re: A Lesson For Our Newer Girls....please read!!!
For those who are interested.... Just a few articles that all state teh same theme "Alcohol pregnancy can harm a baby at any time. It can cause problems in the early weeks of pregnancy, before a woman even knows she is pregnant"
I'm not saying to avoid alcohol completely but that each woman needs to do her own research, not go why people say, and do what is right for her and her body. This is all I will say about this topic.

Re: A Lesson For Our Newer Girls....please read!!!
I just think about all the women years ago who drank caffine, smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol even through the pregnancy. When I told my mom I would be sad not to have my morning coffee she laughed at me..she was like...you can have 1 cup of coffee...Yes you are right alcohol affects the fetus, caffein affects the fetus, but you know what life goes on....and i'm sure there are tons of articles saying it "could hurt" but you "could" get cancer from talking on a cell phone...you "could" get heart disease from eating fatty foods...but people still do it....and life goes on. I think the OP was just saying don't be too too careful....

Re: A Lesson For Our Newer Girls....please read!!!
i, the OP, was simply attempting to state that stopping your 'normal life' is not a good thing when TTC'ing.
One cup of coffee isn't going to do more damage than anything else. One glass of wine isn't going to kill you.
EVERY single month, we go through TTC'ing - there's a 10% chance we're pregnant. What quality of life would we all live if we went around every day of every week of every month going, OMG - i can't put on a seatbelt...if i get in an accident, the pressure would hurt the baby. I can't go on that vacation, all that s e x may hurt the baby..
My point again, you don't know how long your TTC journey is going to be. You don't want to look back in a year and go, wow, why didn't i allow myself to have fun - nothing happened anyway...
As the PP said best, when our mom's were pregnant with us, they did drugs, they drank wine, they smoked cigarettes, they did things they NEVER should've (by today's standards).
When we were kids, we played in the streets with our friends until it was dark out, we played with METAL toy cars and we survived.
Take EVERYTHING in life with a grain of salt is all i'm trying to say. I fully believe that there will come a time when breathing AIR will no longer be 'good for you'.

ITA!!!
Almost every woman I know who's gotten pregnant drank before they knew they were pregnant- one didn't find out until 2 months and was drinking. All had perfectly healthy babies. It's a very common thing.
I haven't stoppped drinking or eating anything. I know this will probably be a long road for me and I will know as soon as it happens, so I'm not worried at all.
Sushi, saki and BD'ing tonight for our second anniversary!!!

Re: A Lesson For Our Newer Girls....please read!!!
I really can see both sides of this.
On one hand, I have been TTC for 13 months now. If I had given up sushi, caffeine, and the occasional drink I would have wasted a year of not indulging for no reason. (I'm not a smoker and I only drink maybe 1x/month).
On the other hand, I think what Blissful is trying to say is that some girls will come on here and take these posts VERY seriously. They might read that and say "Okay, well I read online that I can get smashed during the 2WW because I don't share blood with the baby." I think all she is trying to say is that women should make an informed decision and do what they and their doctor feel comfortable with.
Since I'm not a drinker, giving up alcohol is no big deal to me. I still have my coffee everyday, and I have sushi about once each week. When I do get pregnant, I will gladly give up the sushi - but I will continue with my coffee (maybe switch to half-decaf) as long as my doctor says that's okay.
To each her own

I agree not to go crazy with avoiding stuff, but there were some medications I was on that my doctor said to go off of before TTC.
With any medicines, check with your doctor!
