A Lexie update, pictures and questions
We took Lexie to the vet yesterday for the first time. She weighs 16 pounds at exactly 10 weeks old. She appears to be really healthy, and her stool sample came back negative for worms, but they treated her anyway just in case. (the sample I brought was old) She still has diarrhea. I swear, the vet we had was about 12...
Lexie is doing well. She loves us. We got her lots of chew toys, and she's getting a little better with the nipping. She loves to chew gently on my hand and then lick my face.
Questions.... 1. Can a puppy get diarrhea from nerves? For example, she had another bath this morning and was pretty freaked out, even though we tried to keep her calm, etc. Right afterwards she had watery diarrhea. We can't really figure out a reason for it....she's on the same food that she was on at her foster home.
2. How do you get them to stop pooping in their crate? The first night, she woke up to go out...but the past three nights she has pooped in her crate and rolled around in it, requiring a bath for 3 mornings in a row....which is traumatizing for her. Should we wake up in the middle of the night and make her go out? She did bark at 4:00am this morning, but unfortunately she had already pooped.
3. What is your opinion on what breeds she may be? The shelter told us Australian Shepherd and Boxer, but the vet said she didn't think so. SHe thought maybe Akita, Chow and Shepherd?
Here are some more pictures!

I had a Doogie Howser vet too at one point.
OK so the dog could definitely get loose stool from nerves. Try mixing some white rice, boiled plain & not rinsed into her food. It might help. If it does not go away after about 2 days call the vet back.
As far as getting her to not poop in her cage, do you have her sleep & eat in there? If so she should not want to poo in there. It could also be the nerves. Try to watch for similar behaviours that might let you know when she is ready to go out & try to take her out when she lets you know.
The breed. I'd have to agree with the vet. DH has a Chow/Akita/Pit/Shepherd mix & she looked a lot like Lexi when she was a pup. The only thing different betweeen Sandy & Lexi is Sandy has that square Pit head & the orange eyes. Other than that very similar. Sandy is the sweetest most gentle dog ever, and a big ol mush!
