a long coming vent

my 17 month old has sensory issues which makes him vomit VERY easily. if he laughs hard, then he gets the hiccups=he vomits. he cries hard= he vomits, he doesn't like a food=he vomits, he coughs=he vomits.

now he has a little cold and he has been throwing up constantly.Chat Icon i just feel so bad for him and it is so tough to go about life like this.

he's not eating (noramlly it is a HUGE battle anyway) but now it is nuts. if i'm lucky he'll eat a yogurt or pudding for a meal and drink his pediasure and then he coughs and bam it all comes out.

it's just so hard and their is no end in site. even when the cold goes away it's just a constant battle with food and everything coming up.

i just feel like the only one going through this. he just had 2 more aweful procedures to find a problem but since no problem is ever found then it just proves that it is sensory related and there is no fix for it. (he has therapy but it's a joke.)

i just wish there was an end in site for him. (and me.) and now with baby #2 coming, it'll be even harder b/c he needs so much attention.

i'm sorry for the pity vent but thanks for listening.

I'm an SLP but have worked closely with OTs. If you feel the therapy is a joke, have you tried other therapists? Other sensory gyms? I'm sure you've heard it before, but be his advocate and get what you think he needs! I've seen OTs do great sensory work!

I'm sorry. That sounds so trying. I remember when DD was spitting up all the time, that wore me out. I can't imagine how hard it must be on you to still deal with it at 17 months. Hopefully once he can communicate better maybe you can get to the bottom of it a little easier.

Re: a long coming vent

Is there any way you could or would even want to night feed him through a tube?

A friend of a friend had a son with sensory issues and eating. He would only eat soup. Even now, he won't eat crunchy things. She had wonderful luck at an eating clinic through NYU in NYC.

Good Luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

sasha96

he gets speech/feeding but she really just feeds him and wants me to mush everything up when he used to eat things soft but in small bites. he has low tone too. his ot stinks and i'm thinking about asking for a switch.

want2beamom

the upper gi was totally normal. good but not good b/c that just means more tests.

BigB

i don't think i'd be willing to tube him b/c he can eat some foods and drinks his pediasure. when he vomits i just refeed him. meals take 1 hour but what can i do ya know. but thanks for the info on the feeding program at nyu.

thanks again everyone!
