A neighbor taught us a lesson on why we shouldn't judge!
(long, sorry but I wanted to paint a picture of the situation)
We live on a corner and we have two neighbors that border our yards. Neighbor A we have talked to and worked out things like fences and whatnot. Neighbor B has never waved, said hi, came over to introduce themselves, etc. I seldom see Neighbor B outside, their house always looks so dark so I think... Maybe they're not even really there all year round?
Anyway, a couple of months ago, we had a hell of a lot of tree work done. The previous owners had let everything go to hell - privet hedges, maple saplings, wild roses, you name it. So when we cleared a lot of it away, we suddenly had a better view of Neighbor B's house and yard. I was unprepared of the starkness of the change and worried that I had never even said boo to them before, and we changed their view without consulting them first.
They never said a word, and whenever I saw anyone on their back deck, they just laid in a lounge chair facing away from our house. Facing towards their own house. I thought hmm.... is that a sign that they don't like what we did and choose to look at a blank wall instead of our yard?
So, p.s. yesterday I'm making chocolate chip cookies, putting them in decorative buckets with cards and ribbon for the neighbors we're "friendly" with. Even the ones that aren't that nice. And I realize that I have an extra bucket. Then I remember, I had intended on giving one to Neighbor B even though we've never spoken to them.
DH and I talk about it and decide this is a nice way to make an investment into that relationship, even though we've waved to them, they never wave back, don't talk to us, whatever.
So here's the kicker. DH goes over to deliver the bucket, a man answers the door, they're talking, and Rusty goes to hand him the bucket... Neighbor B doesn't offer to take it from him, doesn't extend his hand out at all. At first DH thinks, what, he doesn't want cookies? Then he realized. Neighbor B is blind.
Kind of explains why the lounge chair faces the house and not our yard and why he doesn't wave back to us either, doesn't it? Not to mention, that he doesn't have a guide dog, doesn't know the terrain of our yard/house to visit us and say hi, and lives alone.
Just goes to show you... you just NEVER know someone's situation and should not make assumptions. Now we know Neighbor B's name is Bill, he really appreciates the cookies, and DH offered our assistance should he ever need anything. It appears that he lives alone and is probably pretty lonely. We're definitely going to make an effort to visit him more and SAY hello (not wave) when we see him outside.

That is a really nice story. God bless all of you.
You seem like a really nice person to send DH over there with cookies when your initial impression of this neighbor wasn't great.
