a positive female influence in your life...
If your mom passed away (or in my case just wasn't there) when you were young, did you have someone that played a positive and strong role in your life who was female?

Re: a positive female influence in your life...
My mom died when I was ten and I would not have survived without wonderful women in my life.
I have a great realtionship with an aunt in Virgnia. The distance meant nothing... always on the phone (then email when I was in college), visits, shopping trips, long talks about boys (and then men). She and my unlce even walked me down the aisle at my wedding (my dad passed away in 2003).
My next door nieghbor also stepped in as a sort of surrogate mom. She took me grocery shopping and taught me how to drive. When I was younger she always yelled at me for not wearing socks (remember z-cavaricis rolled up with penny loafers ).
Two of my friends' moms also became really important to me. I have grown to call these women my "fairy god-mothers." They helped me deal with the crying, girlfreind garabage, boy advice, af questions and concerns.
I always miss my mom, though. These women are awesome, but not my mom. I know she has had a role in making sure they had an important role in my life. And I must say, I ama teacher and am always on the look-out for young woemn who may need a fairy god-mother. Mom's teach us life lessons and send us others to teach us life lessons all the time -- whether they are physically with us or not!

Re: a positive female influence in your life...
My mom passed when I was 8, it wasnt until i was 12 that i moved in with my Aunt and Uncle and she was like a mother to me. We were very close. In many ways she saved me. We had a falling out when I was 19 (11 yrs ago) and havent spoken since. Although I tried on a few occasions she wants no part of me. The fight was really very stupid, over 19 yr old bullsh*t.. yet she cant see that 11 yrs later. Have heard from family members that she is very sick from her diabetes, and doesnt have much longer to live. The whole situation is so unfortunate..

Re: a positive female influence in your life...
Hi, I lost my Mom when I was 15 months old. I was very fortunate to have many positive influences in my life, both male and female. My Grandmother moved in with us until I was 10. She was a wonderful, maternal person, but not very supportive, emotionally. She was VERY old fashioned. I had two older sisters, with whom I'm very close with now. All in all though, since we don't have that CONSTANT, unselfish support of a mother, I feel that many of us build our backbones very quickly. I found that I have taken a piece of each person in my life, and pieced them together to be a support, a friend, a mother of some kind. But, I have trouble depending solely on ONE person, because I feel I was never able to do that. I also don't feel that anyone can take the place of my mother so I try to depend mainly on myself for my support and confirmation. I thank all of my closest friends and sisters for all of their emotional support, because it hasn't been easy for them dealing with me, either! I also, after MUCH self-reflection, have been able to trust the most wonderful man in the world. He has shown me the epitomy of unconditional love, support and trust. I hope all of you can find that too, if you haven't already. Hugs go out to you all, I feel your struggles.
