A program or service you wish existed
Hello all!
This is my first post on this board. My name is Antoinette and I teach children with special needs, specifically autism spectrum. The company I work for is looking to expand its services. They have asked the therapists to bring suggestions of programs or services that we think parents are looking for. I thought this was a great opportunity to hear from you, the parents, and possibly be able to make it happen.
So far, I have in mind respite services, weekend clinics for extracurricular activities, and siblings playgroup.
What kinds of things do you wish were out there, that you either can't find or can't find enough of?
Thanks in advance for you suggestions

Re: A program or service you wish existed
Maybe some kind of program where parents of children with special needs can get in touch with each other. It is very isolating for some parents, especially if other parents of "typically" developing children dont understand the childs needs or behaviors. I know some parents have a very difficult time organizing something as simple as a play date for their child, because other parents shy away. This is really sad, but I have seen it happen.

Music Therapy. I know it's out there, but there aren't enough locations. A couple of places I called had waiting lists.

I completely agree with Music Therapy, it's incredible. I actually hired a music therapist who comes to my home for a 30 minute session once a week.
It's basically "speech, and OT" all wrapped up in one incredible experience !!!

Re: A program or service you wish existed
I would love to see a really great summer camp program. I work at the Y and even though our camps are really good, they need to have one for special needs children.

FYI, one really good summer camp program for special needs children is at Camp Paquatuck
