A question for the experts - Diaper Bags...
What should i look for in them? i am not really talking material/pattern wise, more shape and size wise? I have seen some nice ones that look more like purses, but are they practical?
Thanks!!

I have two that look like regular bags...I have only used them a handful of times.
I use the eddie bauer backpack all the time. I feel like a kid going to school, but to be hands free is great.

Re: A question for the experts - Diaper Bags...
I have 2 diaper bags i use all the time.
My top things I love about them
Plenty of storage pockets DARK COLOR Can be overstuffed if need too Stay on my shoulder-comfy to wear Can hold Wide neck bottles in the bottle pockets (I have advents) Place for my cell phone Zipper parts to keep my things separate or baby stuff separate Changing pad Most of all can either fit in the basket of my stroller or over the bars
I have a Vera Bradley Bag and a SKip HOp Duo I use
The skip hop is smaller, I use it more now, mostly for short trips and errands.
IF we are going to be at a place for more than a couple hours, or major shopping trip, I take my Vera.
I used my VEra in the beginning alot since infants/newborns need alot more than toddlers do to carry around.
HTH!

I think the best feature is a wide surface area on the bottom so you can find stuff easily. This is my favorite one in that respect ($20!! Target)...
The downfall to that one is that the handles don't go over the stroller handles at all. So in that regard, my favorite is my SkipHop one even though it's "thin" on the inside...
Other must-haves: several compartments, especially for bottles/sippies.I have several more, but these are the best, IMO!

I have three, but have really only been using one - my Vera Bradley. I love it. It is big enough to hold everything. I like the pockets too. I have a smaller Graco one too, which I used alot in the beginning and will probably use again for shorter trips.

Re: A question for the experts - Diaper Bags...
Racheee had posted an Oilily bag a while back that I fell in love with and had to have- so I got it a few months ago on eBay and I LOVE it....
not only is the pattern super adorable it is perfect size/shape:
things that are great about it:
1) hand carry handles AND adjustable shoulder strap- most diaper bags don't have hand carry handles.... i love the option of using them. 2) horizontal orientation with zipper that extends over the side- makes getting in & out & finding things very easy- not a black hole like my skip hop bag was (i had the duo)... 3) lots of inside pockets for organizing and a cell phone pocket too. 4) two outside pockets for my stuff (these would be better without the funky zipper though)...

Re: A question for the experts - Diaper Bags...
I just ordered a new one - the one I have is so stiff and bulky. It's a Carters and very nice, just heavy and unyielding.
I ordered a Vera Bradley - washable and very light and flexible. I don't have it yet but I am hoping I like it a lot better....
Plus the one I have is brown -- the one I ordered is pink...

I love my bag, but it is "open" at the top. I think it's better when it has a flap over to hide everything that you cram into it!
Oh, and I like the small pockets in front b/c when I am out it's my pocketbook so "my" stuff goes in one of the front pockets

ITA with all of the above. Plus, especially if you are BFing & need to bring a cold pack with you, make sure the inside is waterproof. I also like the bags that lean easily if the milk leaks or the baby spits up on it.

Re: A question for the experts - Diaper Bags...
Ok, my favorite feature on a diaper bag is pockets on the outside. I have a bag now that has a pocket on all four sides, and it's the most useful feature, other than the standards, in any bag I buy. I stick binkies in there, cups, my keys, my cell phone. The next thing that I would suggest is getting one bag that is a messenger style. I can't tell you how many times I'm trying to carry Ava into the house, along with a ton of bags, and the diaper bag slips off my shoulder and all my bags go toppling onto the floor. So I bought a messenger style bag and my hands and arms are always free.
