I don't think we CAN compare the two. I think (at least I HOPE) that we LEARNED from the cluster-eff that was Katrina and that's what improved our response time to Haiti.

While I agree with you on one hand, Katrina was expected to be that bad. One of the biggest problems was that the residents didn't believe it. My dh's family lives there and while some left, others felt that it was just going to be another bad rainstorm.
In addition, there was time to prepare for Katrina. The earthquake just happened. Two very different natural occurances.
I was asked the question, why did you donate to Haiti, but not to Katrina victims. my thinking, weren't the people warned about the hurricane and told to evacuate? I couldn't really remember , but it's totally different situation. Haiti had absolutely no warning.

I dont get your point. I mean leave or not leave they still lost everything becaue of Katrina. they lost their homes and all their belongings. There was only so much they would be able to bring with them. So because they had warning.. we shouldnt donate??? terrible reasoning!

Honestly I see NO difference between the two. People in need are people in need no matter what the situation.
It doesnt matter to me if they are in the US or not. I donated to both causes and wouldnt think twice about it.
