A Return to cranky? Advice?
I dont get it? I feel like I should understand Him better and I dont.
We had a great phase where he only cried when hungry or tired.
Now he cries when he is bored and lucky me, that happens a lot when we are on line in a store etc. He cries for what seems like no reason now?
I cant help but get embarrassed b/c people look at me like I should be doing something and well..I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.
He wont nap anymore, or without a fight. I can tell he's tired, see the first cues but he FIGHTS it so bad.
HE sleeps still 10-12 hours at night but the naps have gone to the wayside.
So many peopel said at 3 months it gets better.
It is getting worse?
What am I doing wrong?

Re: A Return to cranky? Advice?
I found with my oldest DD she had to be entertained at all times. I ended up buying little hand puppets and yes, I would break them out in the store and play with them to make sure she didn't cry. People would look at me like I was crazy, but it worked!
At nap times, once they get a bit older I've found they fight naps so much more. Maybe your DS is sleeping too long at night?
It will get better

Re: A Return to cranky? Advice?
For the past 3 days (12 weeks old as of yesterday!), is only sleeping for 3-4 hours instead of 6-7 hours.
Our ped just told us she thinks we need to increase the amount of BM he takes.

Re: A Return to cranky? Advice?
Just think of this as practice for the many, many, MANY times he will go through this phase. Fun, right?
Cailen went thru it at:
5 weeks old 9 weeks old took a nice long hiatus for me, and is now doing it full force at almost 6 mts old.
This wont be the last time.
I actually attribute a lot of this to growing pains.
Just breathe, tease him (I always teased him when he cried by going "waaaah waaah yourself!" and he actualyl would smile at me!)
The more fun and the more relaxed you are, the less they will have to feed off of. Babies sense tension and I think it sets them off more. Put on some music, and dance with him. Dance FOR him. Stand on your head... just do silly stuff... it will distract him.

Re: A Return to cranky? Advice?
Kerri slept 12 hours at night from 6 weeks on.....but did not nap at all until she was 4 months old...he may get it just yet. As far as shopping.....torture...unless she is constantly in motion she gets fussy

Re: A Return to cranky? Advice?
He could be teething, I've found that Christopher is Crankmonter again since the teething has been kicked up a notch.
And I think, honestly, that crying babies do not bother most people. I know my mom, DS and I were out to lunch with him when he was about 3 months old and he was crying and most people were just being sympathetic about it (I mean, we were dealing wiht it, as you would be, but you know what I mean). He isn't a bigger kid throwing a major tantrum, he is a BABY and you know what? Babies cry and that is fine

I agree- I always apologize when he criesin public and everyone tells me its not a problem at all - a lot of the time for some reason they even think its cute!!!

Re: A Return to cranky? Advice?
I am so glad to here I am not the only one who is experiencing this. I try not to break down and cry myself. DS is going to be 2 mons tommorow and still @ times has days like your DS. I am waiting for the 3 month mark. Ped told me today that my DS is a little extra sensitive, and I said to myself OH GREAT. But I still love him to death. I am definetly with you though.

I agree with the other posters - It's most likely a phase. With DD #1 I would sing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" - Didn't care where I was, and it always worked - People LOVED it.

Re: A Return to cranky? Advice?
Donna, Hannah started sleeping through the night and napping GREAT at 6 weeks and then almost to the day that she turned 4 months it stopped!! She started waking up earlier and naps...there were no more naps!! She would cat nap 15 - 20 minutes here and there. To get her to cat nap was an hour long fight.
Unfortunately it didn't end until she started to sit up and crawl around 7 1/2 - 8 months. I think she's just more active and needs more sleep now.
OK now in the stores, I'll admit I'll give her something to play with off the shelf. Usually she's whining and just giving her something new keeps her quiet long enough to get things done. Even at 3 months, just the texture, colors or sounds of certain things kept her entertained.

Re: A Return to cranky? Advice?
Probably a stupid question, but do you give him little toys to play with now to occupy him in the stroller when you go shopping? DS gets bored after awhile as well but I bought this little Winne the Pooh book that crinkles and he can chew on and it occupies him forever. He loves it! I feel like DS gets bored also. I rotate him between tummy time, the jumparoo, his walker and me holding him and singing to him ,etc. It's hard at this age b/c they really can't do much.
As for the sleeping, DS always fought it too. He still does from time to time. Sometimes I realized I just had to put him down in his crib and he would actually fall asleep much faster than me trying to rock him or hold him. Sometimes they just need a few minutes to unwind on their own.

Re: A Return to cranky? Advice?
I try to give him toys in the store, but he is only 3 mopnths and JUST started actually being able to hold a toy. And Theres a catch 22...he holds it and when he drops it he Freaks out too ( which is often)
AS far as the napping and stuff...he also seems to be eating less, and yet MORE OFTEN? Weird?
And sometimes now he cries when he eats?and this occured the same time as the return to spit up ....could he have reflux or an issue suddenly?

I could have written this word for word. The naps are TORTURE for me. To the point that I am losing my mind. Nighttime sleep he is fine with.
I am reading the Baby Whisperer now --- hoping for any sort of insight on what I can do to make the day go a little bit more smoothly if possible!

Funny you say that about 2 days ago DS was doing the samething, and he has reflux, pediatrician said that it is hurting him to eat and had me increase his Zantac to 3x daily. Hoping it helps

Donna, I got a "clip on" toy/mobile that I got at BRU. It was on the carseat/stroller section in the store in Westbury. It's a dangling frog with a fish, turtle, etc.. It has a clip with a spring. I hanged it from the canopy of the stroller or the canopy of the carseat. I hanged it while shopping at BRU to make sure he liked it. Since he did... I bought it. It was $10.

Colton JUST started this too!
All he wants us to do is stand when we're holding him--- or if we're sitting he has to be standing up!!
He was soooo cranky this eek-- we were out of our minds.. quick 15 minute catnaps etc--
sure enough we see a little white spot on his gums....

LOL
Im kidding, but he has toys for the stroller and car seat etc.
His room could rival any BRU or TRU at 14 weeks old
