I would rather get a solar panel charger. Half the price or less, and no flames involved. Neat idea if you're camping, though, since you're making a fire anyway. For the home, though, I would stick with the solar panel.

love it. how come we don't have a solar car yet? or cars that run on recycled cooking oil. I mean, we know it works. I know there are kits that can be added to vehicles with diesel engines...and i know people can (with good engineering and science knowledge) rig them up themselves...but whats the hold up with car manufacturers and govt. It's not like we need a huge investment in testing...these things have already been tested and prototypes made. I mean... we've seen the people on "the colony" drive a vehicle using rotted pig fat

Some hybrid/battery cars do have solar panels on the roof, but you would need way too many panels to make a "solar powered car".

There are a lot of downsides to waste food oil as fuel. First, it's not a reliable source. Once a certain number of people start using it, there would be a huge cost to buy it from restaurants (supply and demand). You also need to have two tanks in the car. One with diesel, and one with the waste oil. The diesel is needed to warm up the oil, and also to clear out the lines before you turn off the car, so current configurations requires a bit of knowledge and coordination.
With new EPA rules coming up soon requiring car fleets to get an average of over 50mpg, manufacturers are looking at every option possible.
