A spinoff to my own post...Let's talk worrying....
What is the one thing you are most neurotic about with your DC?
For me, the thing that makes me the most scared is that she might choke while eating something. I don't worry so much that I don't feed her solids, but I am always ready and waiting until the day I have to yank her out of the high chair and perform the heimlich. I actually don't like anyone else feeding her, except for JT, unless they're babysitting. I trust other people to feed her, but I don't like to watch other people feed her. Isn't that weird?

I dont like other people changing Julia's diapers besides my DH, my mom and my sister. Anyone else I get worried....
The last time my MIL changed her poopie diaper she still had some poop on her butt, I wanted to ! I told my DH I have to give your mom a lesson in how to change a diaper, I mean come on its not rocket science!!

hmm, I agree with you ladies. It's a toss up on chocking and the diaper changes for me. She's a gagger and I'm always like this And no one cleans her at diaper changes better than me.

My kids are older so I have different worries.
My top worries are: 1- Underestimating a serious illness & the fatal consequences.
2 - Having my children scared & alone without me.

I worry about the bath. I'm always scared that I'll look away for a second and he will drown. Silly, I know. So I am always very careful when giving him a bath.

for me, having my dd eat/drink something that she's allergic too. That could potentially be life threatening since she's anaphalytic. I've had more nightmares about it happening than I'd care to remember.
otherwise, choking - she's 2.5 yrs old and STILL putting things in her mouth

Re: A spinoff to my own post...Let's talk worrying....
I am a brand new mom and my biggest worry is suffocating/not breathing. I am always checking, especially when she is sleeping that she is still breathing. I am neurotic about making sure there is nothing that could cause her to suffocate around her bassinett. What am I going to do when she goes into her own room?

Took the words right out of my mouth. I also worry I am feeding DS too much and he's going to gain way too much weight. I am learning that he is perfectly fine and he really does know when to stop. He ate all day today (well at least it seemed) and then went from 5:30-10:00PM without a bottle. So, he really does know when he truly is hungry. I have to stop second guessing his eating and just "listen" to him.

Re: A spinoff to my own post...Let's talk worrying....
the choking thing was HUUUUUGE with me with my first. I had a little scare when my niece was 18m old so that stayed with me for a while. I have to say, it's gotten better with boy# 2, as I let him have whatever his brother has. yes, I still cut up grapes, I watch them chew, Im always saying, "small bites". Im sure I will be nervous again once it comes time for Luciano to start on table foods. I usually hold off as long as I can on that although Im quite proud of myself for going to stage 2 the 2nd week he started jars
and of course now that I have toddlers and Ive been in the parenting game a while, my newest fear is when we are out. someone kidnapping them or one of them getting lost, etc. Im like a nutjob with my eyes on them at all times. I have to be close to them or see them 100% of the time. some moms think im nuts, but most moms Im with have only 1 or 2. Im constantlly doing a head count Its become as obsessive as my choking fear was. I just dont trust anyone or any situation. I have a whole strategy and plan of attack as we enter and exit the car. I feel very vulnerable since I have so much to get done, pack into the car, etc.

Re: A spinoff to my own post...Let's talk worrying....
I don't really worry about anything like that...my main worry is that he will fall into the corner of a table, but I think the fact that he has lots of hair usually helps with that.
I don't have time to be worried...worrying stops you from enjoying your life and your child!
I believe that children have to learn to choke and splutter on food in order for them to learn how to move food down their throats. I think the chances of them choking are very slim!

Re: A spinoff to my own post...Let's talk worrying....
for me it's when Roman's sleeping, especially if he's sleeping an extraordinarily long time. DH's brother stopped breathing during the night when he was 3 and now has mental retardation, because he lost so much oxygen to his brain.

For me, its also choking. I'm never sure if I cut up her food small enough. It doesn't stress me out too much, but it is something I worry about.

Same here! I have been meaning to get to an infant CPR class and i think the lack of that fuels the worry.

For me its having someone else drive my babies - even grandparents. I have such a fear that something terrible is going to happen that still to this day - myself or dh are the only ones to drive them anywhere.

Re: A spinoff to my own post...Let's talk worrying....
I have to say Im VERY layed back and I NEVER let anything stop me from getting out and about with three.
but I will choose where I will or wont go.
In some ways you get more layed back as you have more children, but in some ways you HAVE to be more careful.
one set of eyes on two toddlers and an infant is VERY different than having one child with you only. the dynamis is incredibly different,
feedings, snacks, potty runs, diaper changes.. quick think of a plan before he pees in his pants
I do get compliments on how well I handle three, dont know why though I guess I am layed back about it as long as we are in 4 walls, I can see all three of them, a bathroom is nearby and I feel safe.. then im good.

I am nervous when I am driving with DS. I am soooo paranoid now and I never was. If DH or my parents are driving, I am fine

Re: A spinoff to my own post...Let's talk worrying....
Molestors and getting hit by a car. When my oldest was a baby I had a dream he got hit and killed by a car when he was 6 and the fear has never left me of one of them getting hit by a car. And strangers...although they are small and have had limited encounters with people outside the family/friends network, my DH was talking about sending my 4 yr old to day camp this summer and I am beside myself worrying who might have the opportunity to molest him. With school, its very structured as to who has access to the kids, I dont know about a camp with teen counsellors or a bevy of adults around. I don't generally consider myself a paranoid person or an alarmist, but these 2 things grip me with constant fear.

Liz, this is one reason why I may work at a day camp and have them there, this way theyre near me. but im looking into maybe 2-3 days a week, so we dont leave the baby too long. (w grandma).

That he will stop breathing he has respiratory issues and sometimes his feedings are complicated from that, so choking is a close second.
