Re: A Thousand Splendid Suns
I read it for my Book Club. Every single one of us loved it. It's amazing what a person can endure. I just can't imagine a life like that, ya know?
I'm interested to know what you think about the ending. Hurry up and finish!

Re: A Thousand Splendid Suns -spoilers inside
Ok I finished and all I can say is WOW. One of the BEST books I have ever read.....
The ending was "somewhat" predictible is that i did sense Tariq was still alive and I knew in the end Mariam would end up killing Rasheed. But it was powerful none the less.
I feel like I know NOTHING about Afghanistan though and that saddens me that many of us are kinda blind to what happened there ( and continues to) .

The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns both made me feel this way. I really thought this book was incredible.
I hoped someone would kill Rasheed, but I wasn't sure who it would be. The part when Laila gave birth to her son still horrifies me. Maybe bc I'm preggo? Or maybe because it's horrific, preggo or not!
Someone in my office told me he hated the part where Mariam dies but ironically, I found that part to be uplifiting. Like she finally got some control over her own life - even if it was just the end. Like she lived in pain and torture but she died in peace, internally at least.
