A two part post: My First Acupuncture Experience and What I Came Home To
Part 1: Some of you may remember that I won the free consultation and four weeks of acupuncture at the Fertility Wellness Center. I went for my consultation last week, and had my first treatment today. I have to tell you that I was always very hesitant about acupuncture b/c I hate needles, but since I have to get over than anyhow, I figured it was worth a shot.
I am generally an uptight person. It takes a lot for me to truly relax. I can honestly say that I don't remember the last time I felt as relaxed as I did during and immediately after my acupuncture treatment. Dr. Jim Vitale did a back treatment, which he said was a kind of "detox." I felt so good after, and still feel mellow, which might be a record for me. I was relaxed, but not sleepy, driving home from Huntington Station, and stayed fairly relaxed while stuck in traffic. Fabulous.
Then I got home....
Part 2: ...and saw a large box waiting on my doorstep. I knew it was my IVF meds, which were scheduled to come from icore pharmacy TOMORROW, when DH was home to get them and put them in the fridge. I started to get tense, but tried to maintain my nice relaxed state. Once I opened the box, I found that the gonal, which was the only thing that needed to be fridged, was still cool, so I felt better. However, seeing all those meds was so overwhelming! In addition to the gonal-f, I have menopur, ganerelix, and PIO. Oh, and chorionic gonadotropin. Is that generic HCG instead of ovidrel? I thought Dr. B told me he would trigger me with Lupron, so I'll have to ask.
So, I still haven't gotten AF two months after my D&C, and I'm not sure when I'm starting IVF, but I know have an overwhelming amount of meds, so it's starting to feel real! So much for that relaxation from the acupuncture....

i always felt uber relaxed after acupuncture as well.
as far as the meds, yes that is HCG but dr. B doesn't always use it for trigger. generally if you don't trigger with it you get a booster of it right after ER. as far as triggering with provera, i've never heard of that. i know you can trigger with lupron but since provera is a synthetic progesterone im not sure if its possible. also the trigger would be an injection, not pills. did you receive provera in your meds box as an injection??? now im curious about this!!
good luck!! glad you liked acupuncture, i think it totally helped my lining for my IVF cycle.

I really enjoy acupuncture... some days more than others. I found it most effective when I went after work. These days I'm sometimes just anxious to pop up and get out so I could go do something fun I'm sure once I get more into my cycle I'll need to destress though.
I know how you feel with that big scary box. Believe me when I say.... the box is misleading. IVF is totally manageable!! This is also coming from a medicine phobe who to this day strongly debates a TYLENOL even!!
I find the stim goes quick and once you get the retrieval over with, it's pretty cool to be so informed about your little embies!! The process flies once you get started and we will all be here to answer any of your questions!!

Um yeah...apparently I was too relaxed, b/c he said that I would trigger with Lupron, NOT Provera. Provera is what my gyno is going to give me if AF doesn't come by the end of the month! LOL!
Either way, the Lupron wasn't there, just the HCG.

Glad you enjoyed acupuncture. I have fallen asleep before, drooling and all! I too used to love to go after work. I looked forward to my nappy time!
