A waste of $75
Grrr.... My inspection was like 3 weeks past due (seriously- I just forgot- lame excuse I know- but with the babies b-day, and then with him being so sick for like 2.5 weeks straight- I was just preoccupied- plus my car is only 1 yr old- so it never even crossed my mind) and today right after leaving the pumpkin patch- we got stopped at a check point...
It makes me so mad- ESP since my brother and his stupid friends were pulled over 2 weekends ago- for being under the influence of drugs and alcohol- and were ALL let off the hook- with just a call to the parents... and here I am- NEVER a ticket or an accident- and I get a ticket for no inspection
They had like 5 cars set up- getting all the families coming home with their pumpkins- if they are gonna do a safety check point- why dont they do it a night- getting all the drunk drivers??? Also- so much for safety- when they never once checked to see if my son was properly in his carseat in the back (He was of course- but if you are doing this "check point" for safety reasons- shouldn't you be checking something like that out as well?)
I guess in the end- I still did the "crime" so they ticket is mine- but it just sucks- what wouldve cost me $10 is now gonne cost me $75

Oh man that stinks!!!! I'm so sorry this happened to you......I don't understand how drunk drivers get away with driving under the influence and you are just a little late with your inspection....could've just given you a warning....uggh.....it stinks. I don't blame you for being mad!!

sometimes if you prove you got it done within 24 hours they will waive or reduce the fine. Worth a shot.

Thats what Im saying- My DH was driving- and today was his b-day- She (the cop) could see that right on his license- you think she couldve cut us some slack....
3 or 4 cars got pulled behind us (different cops of course) and every single one was given just a warning Makes me so mad!

Thats what my DH was saying- but not so sure who is gonna be open on a Sunday-
If by chance we are able to get it done tomorrow- how do you "prove" you got it taken care of...
other than that- we leave the country on Monday- so tomorrow is our only chance of getting it taken care of!

you will have your receipt that it was done. It will be tough finidng someone on a Sunday though. Good luck!

There is a garage on North Ocean in Medford that is open Sunday. It's between Sunrise and the LIE in the large shopping center with a Ruby Tuesday and I think a Stop & Shop. I think it's a chain, maybe a Mieneke Muffler? They had 3 or 4 bays and I'm almost certain they had a sign saying they were open Sunday because we made a mental note of that for future convenience. Pretty sure it had one of those Inspection Location signs too.

Definetly try to get it waived - maybe ask that you can pay the fine and not get the points. (I assume you get points for it?)
The last thing I'd want would be to get points toward my 'Driver Responsibility Act' payment when that was the offense.

yes, I believe that is true. it might even be a longer time period.
I once got a ticket for a broken taillight and they said if I got it fixed and went to the precinct, the ticket would be waived.

yea....CAR safety...
which is usually inspection and registration...
Points are usually only given when it is a moving violation
ETA...i have seen them at the toll booth when you are going to the beach...on the side of the roads
They do them during the day usually ...no reason to do them at night...
Usually the night check points are for DD

At least a few times a year, during rush hour, the cops are on the exit and entrance ramps to exit 42 on the NSP. It's a PITA beause it really backs up traffic in the morning and afternoon but they know if you are on the ramp they gotcha.
I'm seeing these more and more now in the past few years. Another way to fill the county's coifers.

thye STAND in the roads puling people over in some places
not likely they are going to risk being hit by a car at night

they do this frequently in Long Beach... coming in or going out of LB on that one road... and they do it during the day... as well as night DWI checks... it is a safety check for inspection and registration and seatbelts.....

If your inspection is under 10 days passe due then you can send in your receipt and get it waived but not for 3 weeks. It's worth a shot but if you send that in with no money they may hit you for a late fee.
Sorry this happened to you. It happened to me a few months ago and I was PO'ed!
