Over the past couple of days there has been alot of unrest on the news and on LIF about the groom that was shot by the cop. Lots of heated opinions, lots of back and forth, and some strong language.
But the most important thing I have seen in all of these posts is passion - passion for something that you believe in. And for that, I commend everyone who has posted an opinion, even if some of the language was questionable.
I know some people cringe when they see someone calling someone a "jacka$$" or "ignorant" or some of the other colorful words seen in these posts. While I may not agree with their use, I admire the passion that people have taken in their beliefs and the expression of those beliefs.
As for my opinion on the matter - I'll make it brief, so as not to belabor the point. My opinion is that I really have no opinion because I wasn't there. In this case, there are four sides to this story.
1. The cops' viewpoint
2. The perps' viewpoint
3. The media's spin
4. The truth, which we will never know
But, sometimes with passion comes loss of logic. I mean, let's face it. Someone who is a cop, or who has one in their family is going to have a predisposed opinion, as is someone who might have been the victim of a crime in the past. It doesn't make anyone right or wrong. Experience clouds logic, which leads inadvertently to some of the generalizations we have seen here.
So, off the soapbox I go - with sincere kudos to everyone for the passion they have shown.

I agree with this 100%..people who's DH, father or any family member are cops will automatically side with the cops...human nature I guess.....well put don

it's not about the same thing at all
i was commenting on the overall passion taken in the issue, not the issue itself
i put a quick one-liner in there about how i felt
but largely, this is a different topic - it's about passion

I felt the exact opposite way about the debate I read on here yesterday. I found the name-calling and generalizing (on all sides of the debate) extremely disturbing, and I don't understand how such mud-slinging, done out of passion or not, is productive in any way.
