Re: Abandoning an underground oil tank
We replaced our tank about 5 years ago. We, first, had to have the remaining oil in the tank removed (there is always residual oil in the bottom of the tank). Cost $50.00. The tank was than filled with foam, the lines cut and the fill pipe capped off. We received a certificate saying that this was in compliance with all codes. Total cost was around $400.00.

Re: Abandoning an underground oil tank
I just called General Enviornmental Services and got a price quote of $695 (550 gallon tank) and $.37 per gallon of sludge/water from bottom. I called A-1 and the guy was a JERK on the phone(rude and quoted me $850.00) and Windmill has yet to get back o me.

We used M.A.Y. Tank Company. Their address is 295 Lake Drive, East Patchogue. Phone No. 631-244-7217. I thought this was 5 years ago. It was only 3. This guy was really good and it didn't take long at all for him to do the job.

My husband did this in a home he owned before we were married. He remembers it costing about $800.00 HTH.

Re: Abandoning an underground oil tank
we had a new oil tank put in our basement and got rid of the one underground. We weren't charged since we used the same company.

Re: Abandoning an underground oil tank
We just did this...like 3 weeks ago. We had it done all at the same time of putting a new tank in our garage & adding a hot water heater.
Unfortunately I don't recall the breakdown of $, but I do remember the salesman saying we can get a $ rebate from the county if we show them the final certificate.
(Which reminds me...I need to find out more about this....)

Re: Abandoning an underground oil tank
I used Slomin's (alarm) Oil company. They actually did it for us but I don't remember how much I paid but we had to commit to being their customer for a year but I think it was worth it.
ETS they also took care of letting the county know.
