I think he needs to stop visiting plastic surgeons or at least find a better one.
I don't have a problem with them targeting teens or people in their 20s.
But I see no reason why he needs to put out a statement like this outside of "It's not our target market". What he's done is completely limited his brand to any growth. He may not care but it's a publically traded company & those investors may. Their brand, Ruehl No.925 had to close a few years ago.

I don't know how anyone could shop in there anyway--you can smell the store a mile away.
It's like the clean the store with cologne.

I had a taste of his ugly when I worked for A&F for a verrrrrry short time in college. I worked at Roosevelt Field, and they were coming for a visit. The managers set up the sales associates so that the "best looking" were in the front and the "least best looking" were in the back of the store. We had to have our outfits approved by the manager. No one could be wearing the same shirt/accessory/ect.
Needless to say, I didn't work there much longer after that. That store was full of superficial assholes.
Ha, my DH also worked briefly at the A&F in Roosevelt Field. He hated it. I worked in the Americana Manhasset - and it was NOT like that - or at least they didn't TELL us that's what they were doing. I never had to have my outfits approved, either. Same with the A&F in Fanueil Hall (Boston) which I also worked at. This was 1997-2000 though - I feel like they got more obnoxious as time went on maybe?

The message of this article is nothing new. I think most people have always known this about A&F, they even used to do an SNL skit about it. But to actually come out and use the language he uses, knowing this will go viral is foolish, IMO. I don't see how this can help sales or make shareholders feel good about him as CEO.
I am a fat chick. I have never gone into the store since I know the clothes don't fit me and I die from the scent of the place. However, I have a pretty good amount of disposable income and two beautiful nieces who have just become teenagers who I do buy gifts for. I will never spend a dime in there. I wouldn't have even before this article, but I am hoping that after other women like me read this article, they will think the same way and talk to their daughters/nieces/sisters about this company.

I think it was summer of 02 that I worked there and it was maybe for 4 weeks? It was very brief. The managers only had to approve our outfits for the visit from the CEO and his posse.

it's funny bc when i was in high school and abercrombie became popular I wanted NO part of it. That brand symbolized the valley girls and jocks...which to me were "the sheep" back then. My mom thought I was just jealous and thought I had that attitude because I thought we couldn't afford it so for christmas she bought me A&F clothing and to this day we laugh bc I walked in the house and saw the A&F boxes under the tree and I said "YOU BOUGHT MY ABERCROMBIE AND FITCH?!?!?! UGH" and stormed off to my room. lol yeah it was totally bratty of me but they just didn't get it. I had no desire to "assimilate". lol
Anyway...their clothes are boring and as someone else said very "vanilla". And after reading that article my son will not own abercrombie & Fitch...ever.

I don't want to downplay how awful this is, but this isn't new. I don't even think this article is new.. someone on my FB feed posted it yesterday but I read about this a LONG time ago. Maybe even 10 years ago. Complete with one of those busted pics of the CEO.

I agree! Whenever I walk by the one in the city, I literally have to cross the street. The smell is so ridiculously overpowering. I would get a migraine just standing by the door!

A. this guy is an a$$hole
B. His logic doesn't even make sense (let's put aside the fact that it's completely stupid) Thin does not automatically = good looking. I know a lot of not so attractive people who could fit into A&F clothing. Just b/c a woman is thin, doesn't mean she's "hot"
C. A girl who's overweight could have a drop dead unbelievably gorgeous face attached to her not so 'perfect' body ....
Hey jackass, guess what? IF that same girl decides for herself she wants to get in shape and be a size you're willing to sell to her, YOU're going to now classify her as 'hot' enough to wear your clothing - and she's going to tell you go to to hell.
And as someone else mentioned, who's to say just b/c I can't fit into your clothing I wouldn't buy a gift for someone who could? NOT ANYMORE !!
I DO agree to some extent re: his clothing STYLE not being appropriate for larger women - NOT at all w/ his logic or his attitude BUT, I don't think that shorts cut to look like underwear should be worn by someone over a certain size - I see a LOT of young girls (A LOT) who are dressed completely inappropriatedly for their body type.
I'm not saying at all that every woman must be a size 6 to be beautiful - I'm far from it - but if you are a size 16, shouldn't be wearing tiny tanks and short shorts ......You also shouldn't have to dress like a frumpy old woman, but you can't really wear the A&F style -

I was gonna say - have another face lift OR FIVE 
I don't know what he determines to be fat - although, funny, he's not what I would refer to as thin either but nonetheless, when I have shopped there in the past I'm a large in their sweats and usually a medium in their tops and I'm a size four at every single other store (well, before being PG lol) - even the European, fancy stores that run real small - the biggest I am is a six. I buy XS or S in every other store that is a "letter size" so I think their whole image of sizes and shapes is way skewed, judging from my own personal experiences.
