I am way too old to even remotely think about shopping there and it was not around when I was younger.
So honestly while his comments are nasty I wouldn't let them rile me up.

I don't shop there...I went into one of their stores once, reluctantly, with a friend and it smelled weird, like pine and wood and desperation.
Years ago I was in Hollister with my sister because someone had gotten us Gift Cards for Christmas.
I couldn't deal with the entitled brats that were waiting on line for the dressing rooms and the STRONG smell of perfume/cologne- we walked out and I ordered a beach bag and flip flops online.
I was probably a size 12 at the time and as we were leaving I saw a girl looking through a rack of clothes and said "Ugh- they only have this in Cow size" There were only sizes 6 and 8s left on the rack

unfortunately even bad publicity is good publicity so I am sure that this won't hurt their sales
but this size 10 fatty will never again buy anything in there- and I have nieces, nephews and cousins that I used to shop there for.

Never shopped there & not planning to start.
I think his reasoning is ridiculous & insulting to many. If he doesn't want to sell larger clothes, fine, don't, but what a dumb explanation!

My stepdaughters and I have clothes from them. I'm almost 40 so I don't really think its my style anymore although I do like their stuff.
Sad as it sounds, I can see my stepdaughters feeling very flattered by reading these statements. I think while some people will boycott this place, all the kids who would give up an internal organ to be lumped in the category of "hot" and "popular" will be flocking to these stores like the sheep that they are.

Its a marketing ploy and its successful. I had to  when it said look at his picture..blah.. sounds like this..
He makes money on clothes
but he only wants cool folks to wear them

Some clothes just do NOT look good in XL, XXL. I say this as my family is big. it is what it is. I have seen SO many button up short sleeve shirts with designs down the sides I could be sick!! But its what best fit my dad.
Keep your midriff showing shirts bone narrow jeans to yourself. I dont sweat that I dont fit into his 'ideal'. I am my own ideal. I find no need to attack him or anyone who chooses to spend their money there.

Supply and demand and entrepreneurism at its finest.
then again, we could and would wear stuff from walmart and ya know what, we survived.
Anyone willing to judge a person by the tag on their collar has already lost my attention.

I don't want to downplay how awful this is, but this isn't new. I don't even think this article is new.. someone on my FB feed posted it yesterday but I read about this a LONG time ago. Maybe even 10 years ago. Complete with one of those busted pics of the CEO.
yeah..that too.. this is so old. and he's not alone I think tommy Hilfinger said something similar by about ethnic types instead.
Ironically we still by tommy stuff LOL hey.. he may not mean for someone like me to wear it but its my money and I'll wear what I want.

DH used to work at A&F in college. DH recently told me that I am too old to wear A&F clothing. I wore a lot of A&F clothing in my 20's. I have not been in the store for a long time.
I'm really surprised the CEO would publicly say those things. It sounds like a publicity stunt to me.

I remember when I used to work in retail and I heard that they hired based on looks and not on sales ability. I was instantly turned off....and have never purchased anything from that store...nor will I ever let my daughter wear anything from that store.
I may not fit into their clothes....but I'm not shallow and miserable, so I win!
(And my face doesn't look like I'm a Ken doll who got into a fight with a lighter)

That's the real issue. It's not about me and my fat ass not fitting into his clothes it's about my daughter growing up in a world like this. Saying you're not cool or popular to a younger adult or teenager is awful. You can bet your ass there are kids in high school who read this and use it to torment people. We wonder why our society has so much bullying and meanness it's in part because of sh*t like this. He isn't just saying you're not cool, but he's also saying your not pretty enough or slim enough or good enough to wear his stuff. Shame on him and Shame on anyone who continues to buy clothing from there.

I never saw A&F as "cool" it was very common and corny to me as a teen/College kid.
Now as a parent I will boycott the store on principle..well in 12 yrs when my kid can actually fit in their clothes I will

by your definition we should be angry at them all. Why is it only thin women are models and airbrushed images considered beautiful?
One designer saying he designs for what he considers to be cool people is worth a highlight?
I agree.. there's a lot more but lets be honest.. what you wear or dont wear won't stop bullies. There's ALWAYS a reason regarding image. Hair too long, too dark, glasses, fat, skinny, white, black, too white, too black, too mexican, too short, too tall, short or tall, wrong color red, collar not flipped right, did you roll your jeans, are you wearing the right penny loafers, is that OP or just a shirt, gap, baby gap, was that chanel, is that JC Crew... etc
this is the oldest argument EVER.
What I want to teach my child and what I know as a woman is I could wear a burlap bag and pull it off.. beauty IS in the inside. I dont need his crappy clothes to make me happy or to be a size 0. I just need good friends who make me laugh when I want to cry, cry when I want to laugh and pick me up when i fall down. What I'm wearing means nothing.
So this guy's opinions.. seriously who cares.. he is beneath my opinion. He's worthless because his opinion means nothing to me. I didn't shop there before, I dont see myself going in now and I dont see myself wasting my money in there if AJ wants something. If she wants it that badly then she can get a job.
Otherwise I say grab the whole lot of them and toss them out.
What's wrong with some average jeans and a Tshirt? Why do I have to be all dressy to be cool. Im comfy and cool in my Star Wars Tshirt and size 12 jeans. That is what I hope to teach my daughter. When I used to wear makeup, do my hair, wear the fancy clothes and heels (that I could afford of each) sure was a lot of effort and then when I stopped I found I got the same guys but I felt comfortable. I took power in that.
Why SHOULD I care about what HE has to say?
ETA: btw..i was already too old for his store when it got big anyway.. so he's such a non-factor in my mind.
