About my job Part II

I wrote the email and called my boss at 10am on Saturday Morning. I received a call back two minutes ago and he told me I was a drama queen and a whiner...he should have fired me years ago.

I need a HR opinion and an Attorney ASAP. He canceled my Health Insurance effective Friday and told me if I try to collect unemployment he will sue me. Chat Icon

This guy sounds like a real winner. You definitely need an attorney ASAP. Did you document any previous problems? It would definitely help to have a paper trail. Technically, you quit, so I'm not sure you can collect unemployment. Chat Icon

If you do go back to collect your things, make sure you have someone with you.

I have a spreadsheet full of 4 + years of issues.

All I have there is two pictures and one of Brooklyn's bowls.

HOLY SH!T!!!!!!!!!
I can't beleive that!
You better call a lawyer and see if you have grounds to sue!
BTW, did you actually give notice? Didn't you just leave to get coffee and not come back- he can't actually cancel your insurance and not let you collect unemployment for that can he?

Re: About my job Part II

How did you leave it on Friday? Did you say you quit or did you just walk out? If you just walked out (and maybe needed to cool off) and he went and cancelled your insurance it sounds like he fired you. You should at least be entitled to unemployment.

Good Luck!!

Re: About my job Part II

My husband says I am smart and he is so elated its "over". He has been waiting 2 years for me to end this job and relationship.

I am crying so hard but I don't know if its happy, sad or freaked out.

He can't sue you for applying for SUI.

But, he CAN terminate your health insurance effective your last day of employment. Cobra paperwork should be forthcoming.

It's a state law- you MUST be given the option to enroll in Cobra. If he fails to provide the option, you can sue him for your medical expense and attorney fees related to the health issue.

I just want to give you Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon the whole situation baffles me and his response to your email just makes my eyes bug out in disbelief! There are all those sayings about closing a door opening a window and such and I hope this proves true for you.
IMHO, NOT working for this company anymore is a GOOD thing and I hope that your tears are tears or joy and relief!

My MIL and DH are trying to explain this to me now. They say in a week I will be the happiest camper...right now nothing makes sense.

Don't worry about it. Hopefully, he won't send you the info- then you'll have at least 1 guaranteed suit against him! Chat Icon

give it 3 days- once it sets in and you realize it's over- you will feel amazing

when something similar happened to me- it changed my life for the better

it's shocking at first- but once you realize you never have to go back there and you will be amazed how great it feels

Yep - I "quit" a job in 2002. 4 years later still working at their competitor, it feels great. I was a horrible person as a result of working in that toxic place.

It will all make sense soonChat Icon

He has to offer you COBRA.

I have also had people quit and go on to receive unemployment. He would have to go to a hearing to state why you shouldn't receive it. He is just trying to scare you. Get a lawyer and stick it to him!!Chat Icon
