about starting rice cereal (TMI)
DS started rice cereal a week ago tuesday. He was fine the first couple of days, but now he is very constipated and has terrible diarrhea and gas since Sunday and is going to the bathroom every other day. Other than that he is fine. HE's been EBF up until this point. I prepare the cereal very thin with breast milk and a tiny bit of water. Is this normal? How many more days do I let him go before calling the doctor if it doesn't stop?

They usually adjust to the rice cereal in about a week. Or you could probably just switch to oatmeal..check with you ped. DS gets 2 Tablespoons of rice cereal in his bottles b/c of his reflux. It constipated him at first but his body quickly adjusted to it. He is now a pooping machine.

yep it took my DD about a week too - she gets 3 tablespoons in 6oz bottles due to reflux too and she usually poops 2x per day

we came off rice right away for the same reason. He has been on Oatmeal and multi-grain since.

DD had constipation probleems from the rice so we stayed away from it after the first week or 2 - she stayed with oatmeal and barley instead.
