accidental vow renewal- need advise...
So DH and I are renewing our vows. We really didn't PLAN on doing this- it sort of just happened.
MY DH is getting baptized and making the rest of his sacraments this Easter Vigil. I am being confirmed. Because we were never married in the Church, we also have to have a religious cermony. This is taking place after Easter vigil (a sort of chicken/egg type of thing b/c we TECHNICALLY aren't supposed to take communion until we are married).
So- here's the question. Should I get a small bouquet to carry? Or is that stupid. I have a fun dress to wear, and we have to have best man/maid of honor... we're saying full marital vows with readings and everything... I wasn't planning on getting a bouquet- but now I think it might be cute to have something fun to hold.

I think that is beautiful.
totally get a bo-k if you want. maybe a small one of tiny spring roses..
or if not, maybe a flower for your hair.
but do it up girl! have fun with it.
religion seems to have meaning for the two of you since you are taking these steps as adults...so treat your church marriage as the blessed sacrament it is!!
and POST PICS!!!

I would do it. Why not? Not stupid at all IMHO. This event is meaningful to you and your DH, so do what you feel is most meaningful to you. I would get a small bouquet, an knee length dress, get my hair blown out or something.
Even though it is a renewal of vows, it is STILL a very special day for you and your DH. Don't worry about what others think...do what you want to.
CONGRATS on renewing your love and commitment towards each other!!!!

LOL! I love the phrase "accidental vow renewal".
I say yes! Carry flowers. In the eyes of the Church it is your first wedding, so make it special!

Re: accidental vow renewal- need advise...
it's not stupid at all! get a bouquet for yourself!
DH and I did not get married, the first time in church, we got married at the hall by an Epicapalian minister, not a Priest (we are both Catholic, they would not come).
About 2 years ago i wanted to get married in Church, where I go now, I like the Priest there very much and the Parish. Dh and I got married there, our best friends came, no one else, we didn't even tell our families.
I got a bouquet, it is beautiful, and I dried it.
have a wonderful day!

i agree!!!!
Also, you CAN receive Communion before you are married. that would be one of the SAcraments your DH would be receiving at the Easter Vigil..... then you can receive at your Church wedding.... I am assuming it's a different day because technically, you are only supposed to receive Communion once a day at maximum....unless it's the same day and that's why you're waiting to receive Communion together.
ETA: Congrats to both of you on becoming full members of the Church... I love hearing stories like this--- faith is not dead!

we are getting married same day- after the easter vigil- it will probably be 10.30pm - talk about late night.
Technically if you do not have a dispensation to get married outside of the church you aren't supposed to receive communion until you take care of it (I think anyway)....
we aren't having a full mass- just a wedding ceremony w/ readings, etc.

Re: accidental vow renewal- need advise...
OMG it's so ironic that you posted this. My DH and I didn't get married in the RC Church either (even though we are both RC). When I got pregnant I decided that I wanted to get married in the Church so we had to order our Baptismal certificates. We found out that we were baptized on the same exact day and year. We are getting "remarried" on April 20th of this year - the same day we were both baptized. It will be just our parents and the priest. I haven't thought about getting flowers but it seems like an awesome idea.
Congrats to you!!!

Our Deacon told me that we need to get a marriage license (even though we are technically married)- I double checked with the town b/c it sounded weird to me, and we do have to get one- have to bring our drivers licenses and our marriage certificate.
congrats on doing this- what a great milestone- I can't believe you & DH were baptized on the same day- that's Kismet right there!

Yea, my priest told us the same thing. He said they add a little blurb that says it's for religious purposes only.
Again, Congrats!!
