Acid Reflux choking me in my sleep (TMI and long)

Has anyone else woken up from sleep coughing b/c they inhaled their acid reflux while sleeping ? (at least this is what I think is happening).

Last night I woke up 3 times - desperately trying to clear my lungs so I could get a breath. Each time, I coughed my way to the bathroom, gasping for breath and then vomitted (a good amount).

This has happened to me occasionally throughout the pregnancy- but last night was the worst.

On top of that I had a horrible brochial infection all this week that I"ve been recovering from (lots of coughing) and this moring I've been coughing up some bloody flem and have been blowing my nose and its bloody. I know this is from my coughing fits last night.

It seems every thing I've eaten since yesterday has given me heartburn, which i know is what is causing the acid reflux. I had a piece of plain bread at 5 am this morning and I woke up 15 minutes later with HB. I just don't know what to do about this and can't go through another night like last night...

Does anyone have any advice?

This happens to me but I don't loose my breath. I just vomit a little in my sleep...not to the point of it going in my mouth but high enough that it chokes me. I was using Tums and Mylanta and it wasn't working. I took a Zantac last night before bed and had no issues at all. You should try it...it was ok'd by my doctor.

this has happened to me a few times, but i haven't lost my breath. i just wake up thinking/feeling as if i just threw up. i am able to keep it down, but it takes me a lil while to settle down. usually i take a few tums and drink some coke and go back to sleep, although i do wake up once or twice before i'm absolutely settled. i noticed though that this happened after i had a later dinner that consisted of beef!

I was having similar Acid Reflux issues. I started taking Zantac at night and it has helped. If you can, avoid things like soda and tomato based products before you sleep. The acid from both will aggrevate the acid reflux.

Thanks - I haven't tried zantac, so I will pick some up.

I've been avoiding tomato sauce and heavy foods before sleep as well. Its been a tough week for both DH and I since we have both been sick and DH back is out. We haven't been able to grocery shop, so its slim pickings when I'm hungry in the middle of the night. hence the plain bread.

I should also mention that I have been sleeping with my head elevated to try to help too, (but as you know) its hard to stay comfortable in one position all night long.

This has happened to my husband(obviously not pregnant ) It is really scary to listen to-I can't even imagine dealing with it. He takes Zantac 150 and that hels a LOT. He has also drank milk which seems te help. Also, not sure if you can do this when pregnant but if you lay on your left side-that is the way your stomach lays so it should help with reflux.

Maybe you should think about seeing a gastroenterologist. We go to an awesome one in Garden City-Dr. Gallo.

I have also heard doctors okaying Prilosac or something which is supposedly a miracle cure for reflux/HB.
